catchin the bigen
I have heard that when it comes to catching big bass, using flukes is a good idea. I know that live shiners can account for a lot of lunker bass, but how would ya'll suggest that i fish a fluke, what color, with weight or weightless, and how to work it. Should i let it sink and then twitch it. Give me some ideas! Thanks.

Chris, those are very versatile baits. You can let them sink and sit, twitch it all the way in, reel it steady and then stop it and let it sit-no wrong way to fish it. I fish them weedless and weightless. Colors-I like Zoom Super flukes, so the colors I like are Smokin' Shad, Watermelon Red, Watermelon Seed, and Baby Bass, but just about any color will work.

To be perfectly honest, I have never caught a large bass on any form of a soft jerkbait. I can get the numbers, but not the size.

I have caught quite a few in the bigger size. I believe it has a lot to do with th size of the fluke used. If you are using a fluke jr. then the fish will be somewhat smaller IMO. It's probably the one bait I would want if I only had 1 bait to use. Bass will always feed on baitfish, but not always on other things.

Re: catchin the bigen
Chris, I don't like flukes personally....I think there are 4 soft Plastic Jerkbaits on the market that are bettter...If you are strictly going after a hog, I would go to a Castaic Jerky J (these aren't the expensive swimbaits...these are 3.99 for an 8 pacK)......2nd, I'd go with a 3X Zulu or ZTOO in chartreuse or white, 3rd I'd use a Power Bait Jerk Bait....I don't know the exact name but they only make them for saltwater. Here is a pic of the Jerky J....I highly recommend them.
They don't look that amazing, but let me tell you, they really have a tremendous action Catch em up Brian |
