What are some of the specifics you guys use when Wacky Wormin?

Do you use this rig in medium to deep water?
Do you prefer braid over mono?
Do most of you use bait hooks or offsets? What size do you like?
Do you prefer short cast over long cast?
What plastics do you use mostly? Tiki vs. Worm

I've used the Wacky worm technique before but with poor results, help me understand this rig better please.

Hey guys you asked some great questions...let me see if i can help...

Do you use this rig in medium to deep water?

Not really..I fish wacky in shallow to medium(1ft-15ft) If you fish a weightless senko you knoww that it takes forever for it to get to deeper water(15+ft) a weightless senko has a fall rate of about 1ft per second. If you are fishing it in deep water it will take you awhile if you want it to get to the bottom. I saw a guy win a tourney however using a wacky rigged senko in 80ft of water. Each cast painfully took 4-5 minutes each but it works.

Do you prefer braid over mono?

Neither I use florocarbon line. I really like 12lb. I am brand specific when I use Floro. I prefer Seguar Floro or Pline. You can use mono but I think floro is really sensative and it does sink so it helps the bait get down a little faster.

Do most of you use bait hooks or offsets? What size do you like?

I use the same hook weather Im using a wacky or T-rigged...Gamagatsu 3/0 Extra Wide Gap or a EWG. There is a couple of ways ro rig the wacky. You can put the hook directly into the bait or you can do something I just recently saw on Classic Patterns with Mike Ike....He went to a automotive store and pick up some tubes of heat shrink. He cut the tubes in to pieces of 1/8 inch. Once you have them cut pull the rings over the bait so they are in the middle of the bait. After that take a lighter and "heat" up the heat shrink for 2-3 seconds. Heat shrink does exactly what the name implies. It heats and shrinks. You have to make sure you dont burn the plastic OR yourself. Add your hook and start castin away.

Do you prefer short cast over long cast?

Both. There is no wrong way to fish the wacky. You can try to keep it on the bottom and work slow. You can pull it 5 ft off the bottom and let it flutter back. There is no wrong way. Let the fish dictate how they want it.


What plastics do you use mostly? Tiki vs. Worm

You wanna try to mainly use stick baits. It doesnt matter if its a Tiki Stick Wave Worm or Yamamoto Senko. It is all based on what you have confidense in. I prefer to use a stick bait from a company called Ghost Baits. www.ghostbaits.com It all boils down to confidence. I hope I have answered a few questions you had. I also fish wacky worms in shallow to deep water. I use fluorocarbon most of the time with some mono. I use straight shank hooks.

I fish in all water depths, with 12 pound mono, and I use both senkos and tiki stiks. I prefer the tiki sticks for two reasons: I can get them at walmart, and they taste good. Anybody else chew on the ends? COme on, don't lie.

well thats about the only kind of plastic rigging ive ever gotten right so far and here are my secrets. well first of all i like calm and cloudy days. then i like a fairly stiff rod with and kind of reel and line just as long as the rod it stiff so u can feel those small little bumps. then i like big 1/0 2/0 hooks. ok so i use tiki and senkos, but really any worm will work if done right. the only bad thing to those soft plastics like senko and tiki is the tend to fly off and become lost in water and thats gets old after buys them for 3-5 dollars. but i usually will cast from a corner to corner if im on a bank and if im on a boat try getting it in hard places like structure, but then think about a stronger line.

I fish them pretty much the way Deacon does except for the brand of Flouro and the hook. I use Seguar Carbon Pro and Gammy finesse hooks-both weedless and non-weedless.

don't forget about nail weights in a wacky rig!!!!

if the bass are looking for a reaction bite in or around cover.

putting nail weights in the ends can create a much more eratic(sp?) and faster fall.

and if fishing in deeper water where i fish i consider anything over 10 ft deep. it allwos the wacky worm to get down faster.

also in medium depth water 6-10 ft i like to let it fall shake it a bit and rip it off the bottom up to about 4 feet off the bottom and let it fall again

You can also put a nail weight in the tail when you t-rig and make the bait swim backwards

If you put a nail weight in, you can skip that sucker under docks like nothing else. I've caught bass on that rig when nothing else would.

yes i use them in some case but really u can use just about any hook. but yes the offset seem to work the best
