bow mounted trolling motor
how do you determine how long of a shaft you need for a boat? I have a 1975 glastron bowride 17' , my first boat. It was what I could afford. It runs great but now I want to mount a trolling motor off the bow.

Re: bow mounted trolling motor
ONE WAY WOULD BE THE NEXT TIME YoU HAVE YOUr BOAT IN THE WATER measure the distance from hte bow to the water this will give you depth then go to your dealer and ask him what he recommends.

Re: bow mounted trolling motor
i bought the maxxum74 minnkota with the longest shaft available(62 or 64"something like that)when i'm not in really rough water the top is about 16-18"above the bow.but in rough water,i never have a problem.my boat is a 20ft gambler bass boat(fiberglass).with yours being a bowrider you will probably need a long shaft.
