I'm no expert, but i reel mine in slowling jerking the rod left and right once in awhile. I've caught a few fish using this technique. :

There have been a couple of crankbait threads recently, so that may help answer your question. But effective crankbaiting comes down to one thing: contact. Bang it into stumps, use a square billed bait in shallow flooded timber-the square bill deflects the hooks away from potential snags-or my favorite, use a bait that runs deeper than the bottom you are fishing and let it dig into the bottom kicking up a mud trail. You want the bait to be bouncing off things.
Lipless crankbaits are great along the edges of grass, and if you occasionally snag up and have to rip the bait free of the grass, so much the better. Ofter when ripping it free a fish will try to tear the rod out of your hands. |

Zooker, never thought of a rat-l-trap as an idiot bait, but you might be on to something-even an idiot like me can use it ;D

Zooker ???
Idiot bait? I think not crankbait23...do a search for the other crankbait threads and you'll find some good info. |

Don't be afraid to throw a crankbait in to the knarliest stuff you can find. Trees, brushpiles, etc. You can tweek the bait alittle to run slightly sideways to bang into pilings on docks. It does work.
