Default Japan to eradicate bass??

Anyone catch this on this Saturdays ESPN BassCenter? It was a feature that explained that the homeland environmental board deemed that LMB's werew and invasive species and they recommended exterminating them throughout the country. Now, some excellent products have come out of Japan the last few years and they are just as neurotic about their bass fishing as we are, do you think this will really happen and will we see a decrease in the introduction of Japan specific products like the high end Shimanos and Daiwas?

(1) Why should we be surprised that some people in Japan consider the Largemouth Bass to be an invasive exotic (which it is there)? Don't we think the snakehead is one?

(2) Why should what happens there affect what they make for the U.S. market? If anything a decreased market in Japan should free up product to export to the U.S..

imo japan is in some ways almost as bad as those people in california-you know the ones that just won't leave well enough alone-
i anit saying that all ca poeple are bad just misinformed-big time-
as for japan slowing down production with any thing is laughable. i saw some where that japan is like the third ranked producer of fishing equipment sold in the usa. if the average tackle sales in the us is over 2 billion dollars a year. only a moron would turn down his chuck of that pie.
china is #1 indochina is ranked #2

That kills me that all of those bass are being killed. I think I saw somewhere that any commercial fisherman that catches a bass and kills it will get the equivalent of around $2.50 per fish in Japanese money.

I've heard that the BPS in Baltimore will pay a "bounty" for any snakeheads killed from the Potomac. Up to a $100.00 BPS voucher.

What's the difference?

No. Â*A Snakehead is a fish, native to Southeast Asia, or China, I've heard both, and has been imported into this country as a food fish for the Asian market, and as an aquarium fish. Â*Somehow or the other, as these things always do it seems they have found their way into the waterways of this country. Â*Since they have no natural perdators, and since they are very viscious predators themselves, the affect of them in our waters is unknown at this time, but it won't be good. Â*Think of them as a really ugly bowfin with BIG teeth. Â*

I don't think that the elimination of largemouth in japan will affect the major companies like daiwa or shimano. They are so americanized, kinda like honda or toyota.

Japan is a soveriegn state, they can do whatever they want. I'm a little suprised that they would kill the bass just because it may be unpopular with that countries recreational fishermen, but oh well.

Maybe all the Japanese bass fishermen will all start flying to the USA to get their fix....we could use their money.

Here you go. Â*Everything you ever wanted to know about SNAKEHEADS!

http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/fishing/snakeheads.html

Now while Snakeheads will be a problem, they are not going to as some news reports have all but said, going to walk overland, break into your house, drink your beer, and date your teen aged daughter.

If you catch one. KILL IT! Then call your DNR.

The difference is that the Japanese Gov't stocked LMB's, they were not illegally introduced like snakeheads were.
