Mono- monofilament, is made out of nylon. Â*This material typically has a much higher stretch and memory rate than fluoro. Â*Plus if you get little nics in mono, it breaks much easier than fluorocarbon. Â*Plus mono is visible under water. However different formulas are better than others and some have very little stretch, little memory, high resistance to scratching, and they have very little memory. Plus mono is much cheaper than fluoro.
Fluoro- Fluorocarbon is made of some kinda carbon polymer. Â*This material has virtually no stretch, and almost no memory. Â*Plus it is a very durable line that can get all chewed up and maintaain most of its strength, Â*It is completely invisible. Â*Basically all the properties of the two lines relate to the chemical makeup of what they are. Â*However, they both look the same.

Trav, the difference is what it made of. Mono is pretty much nylon, where flourocarbon is made of, well, flourocarbon. Different chemical properties than the stuff mono is made from, which is one of it's selling points.

Fluorocarbon is also a lot more denser than mono. Since it's so dense it sinks a lot faster than mono. I won't use it if I'm going for a slow fall rate like for a tube or on a topwater bait.
