A spinning reel: tie a simple overhand knot around the line to form a loop, put the loop over the spool, pull it tight and wind the line on.

Spincast: Take the top of the reel off to expose the spool, thread the line through the top of the reel from the outside of the top, and do the same thing as the spinning reel.

You can stop there, but I would take a few extra steps. When you wind the line on, regardless of how you do it there will be some line twist. This can really cause some problems. there are a couple of easy solutions, though. If you have a boat, when you are running to your fishing spot let the line trail behind the boat with nothing tied to it. That will untwist it-then when you stop wind it back on. That is the easiest way to get rid of line twist. If you don't, take it outside, open the bail or push the freespool button depending on the type of reel you are using, and with nothing tied to it grab the end of the line and start walking. When you get to the end, wind the line back on using your fingers to keep it tight. As it goes between your fingers it will untwist.

That can save you a LOT of trouble.

I usually let out 100 ft after I have put new line on , tie it to the fence and gently stretch it a tad, to reduce memory...I prob shouldn't do that , but i do lol ;D
