Drag a c-rig or slow roll a spinner bait,Feel for it.It worked for me over the years.

Re: no depth finder
u could just use structure that breaks the surface and when u see timber out of the water alot of times there will be submerged timber in the areas. and go with gut feeling. and do wat flippin said. and if u get the money, it would be a good investment if u got one.

flippin4it[/quote] Good tip, or just any t-rigged plastic for that matter. If you have a boat, then you can find fishinders relatively inexspensively. I would reccommend the Fishmark 320 for a decent fishifinder for a decent price. I believe last time I saw one it was $139 Otherwiswe just drag a weighted plastic or jig to find stuff. Be concious of rocks, and any rough features, and I would start fishing there. If find any sharp changes in depth mark it with a bouy or you can just make your own with fishing line and a big weight or rock of some sort with a stick tied to the end. Lizards |

Re: no depth finder
You can look on ebay. Sometimes you can find one for a really good deal. Another thing you can do is ask around to anyone you know that fishes alot. They may have an old one sitting around somewhere that they are willing to sell you really cheap, heck some people give them away just to get them out of their way.

Re: no depth finder
C-rig works great. I use a 3/4 sinker and it helps being so heavy to feel the bottom and when you go up and over a hump or down a drop off.

Don't forget the terrain of the land adjacent to the water. Deep banks often mean deep water. Shallow sloping banks often indicate shallow water, etc...

Re: no depth finder
This might be time consuming but when I was a kid i used a rope with a window weight and tied knots every foot on the rope. When I was using that method I never thought to follow the contour of the land and the other methods as above. Used that on the lake until my mother and dad gave me a flashing depth unit for my 16th. birthday. Still have it 35 years later.

Re: no depth finder
as cheap as a decent depth finder is these days there is NO excuse NOT to have at least one in the boat. for under a hundred bucks , you can get a decent fish finder. with transducer and power lead.just as long as it DON'T say humming bird on it . it will last several years to many years. depending on how much you beat it.
