If you don't get any replies here ask the folks at riversmallies.com, thats their ballgame. If you are in the ashville area the little tennessee might not be too far away.

I know alot of good fly fishing rivers in the mountains, but NC streams never seem to hold to many bass in them. The Catawba River near Charlotte is a excellent river for bass, and I probably know some other good rivers, but I would mostlikely haft to look them up to tell you for sure.

Depends on what part of the state you're in. Â*The tidal rivers in the Eastern part of the state should have decent bass fishing, once you get above the salt line. Â*They do in Virginia anyway. Â*I've heard the Chowan in NC is excellent. Â*A lot of guys from Southeast Virginia fish that one. Â*The Roanoke River flows out of Virginia into Albermarle Sound and has a great striper run, so it should have a decent largemouth fishery also. Â*

Zook, I'd much rather fish a good tidal river than any lake, especially in the summer. Â*Tidal fish are a lot easier to pattern, once you learn to figure the tide. Â*Tidal fish don't go as deep in hot weather; the moving water is just like a cooling breeze. Â*Falling tide forces baitfish to come out of the flooded areas, and to concentrate. Â*The predators of course see this as the seafood buffet at Shoney's on Friday night. Â*

Cajun is right.
Sometimes you can fish a tidal river for hours and get nothing, then when that tide starts to fly, the action picks up like you wouldn't believe! |

cajun while i agree with you on the patterning of bass in tidal areas. why drive 5 hours to fish them when a 5 minute walk will have you on a dock??

That's funny because I don't think I've ever caught a Pickerel in tide water. I've always caught them in lakes. Now Grinnels is another story. I can catch a Grinnel in the pool at a Holiday Inn.
