Pre-Present-Post Spawn
I need some advice...I fish a 3.5 acre stocked, private lake. During pre spawn we wore the bass out on rattletraps. However even though we can see the fish spawning now, we cant get a solid bite. I have tried Noisy Buzz's,lizzards, etc. Any Advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Pre-Present-Post Spawn
You could always catch some bait fish and try those. Â*I would say the lizards, left on the nest, or used with a drop shot rig could work. Â*There are some times, when they just won't bite. Â*Make sure you are keeping as low a profile as possible, and wearing clothes that blend in. Â*Just them knowing you are there can make a difference. Â*I also think tubes would work, or any creature style bait. Â* A bluegill/bream on a hook also can do wonders in these situations. Â*I just prefer artificials.

Re: Pre-Present-Post Spawn
Throw pretty much any soft plastic in their bed. They should move it. I wouldnt suggest a tube because of the more difficult hookset. You gotta be quick.

Re: Pre-Present-Post Spawn
If you want to try live bait, go with the new circle hooks. You are less likely to gut-hook your catch. And try goldfish.
If you want to use a tube, put the hook all of the way through and lay it flush along the outside. It will still be somewhat weedless, but the exposed hook makes for an easy hookset. |

Re: Pre-Present-Post Spawn
Not here. Not sure if you meant the gold fish or the circle hooks, but neither is a problem here unless the law has changed in the last couple of years. I don't use live bait anymore, so I haven't kept up.

Re: Pre-Present-Post Spawn
Just confirmed it with the San Antonio office of Texas Parks and Wildlife. Â*Goldfish are legal bait in the State of Texas. You might want to check your local laws before using them, though.

Re: Pre-Present-Post Spawn
When the fish don't seem to bite, I downsize. Goto a 4" plastic worm or lizard for starters.

Re: Pre-Present-Post Spawn
I've been reading that you might try bright colored plastics. White, yellow, etc.

Re: Pre-Present-Post Spawn
I like to use bright colored plastics(white, yellow, pink) on beds because you can see when the bass suck them in and set the hook immediately. Most of the times they are just going to suck in the bait and spit it off of the bed rather than feed on it. So with the light colors if you see your bait and then you don't...set the hook. ;D
