swivel's on jerk bait?
Hello to anyone out there. I was wondering what i put swivels on while fishing. I am very new to taking fishing seriously. usualy a hook and worm kind of guy. I just got some jerk, crank, and spinner baits. any suggestions on how to fish these baits would be helpful.

Re: swivel's on jerk bait?
Put a swivel above the line when throwing a soft jerbait to eliminate line twist.

Re: swivel's on jerk bait?
Swivels work great for weightless worms, and carolina rigs, but nor for cranks or spinnerbaits. Those lures can be fish numerous ways
Jerkbait -- normally fished with a jerk-jerk- pause cadence, how hard you jerk and how long you pause will depend on the fish Crankbaits- depending on how deep they dive weather they have a wide or tight wobble will dictate how and when you fish them. Usually retrieved with a steady retrieve, speed depends on mood of fish Spinnerbaits-- Depends on the blades on how slow you can get away with bringing them. Colorado blades are usually for slow rolling, Indiana blades are an intermediate, and willow blades are usually brought in at a decent retrieve, but you will have to figure out what the fish want when you fish these lures But since you have experience with worms, dont forget about those. |

Re: swivel's on jerk bait?
I use them on a C-rig and a floating worm but that is about it. Otherwise I tie directly to the bait, and if it doesn't have one I add a split ring.

Re: swivel's on jerk bait?
I only use Yankee Sticks=Spinning Rods So I need to use swivels to avoid line twist.I found out a while ago that snap swivels ruin the action of a majority of plugs. So what I do is put a barrell swivel on the tag end of my line then add 14 to 16" of leader, usually same test then I put on a clip(A lot of people dont think this is the best thing to do) which makes it easier to switch plugs but you gotta keep checking your line and the knot as you fish, especially if your d=fishing heavy cover

Re: swivel's on jerk bait?
I always just tie on to a splitring thats on the jerkbait
or crankbait. If its a soft jerkbait I always just use the 3/0 offset Gammys |
