11/24 and 11/25
Mid lake temps ranged from 53 to 58 degrees today. Mid lake to down lake was 53 to 57 yesterday. It's been nice, mid 60's, and sunny the last couple days so the lake is warming up a little. Caught 3 bass today (biggest was 3.7lbs) on plastics (Zoom baby brush hog and YUM 4" ringworm) under docks in less than 6' of water. Fish were surprisingly on shady side of the docks. Fished for about 4 hours and hit 25-30 docks and only got bit on two of them. Sorry no picture of the 3.7 to post (got one taken but email with jpg disappeared into cyberspace). |

I really want to get up there again! Do you ever striper fish in/ around the north anna river? Last time I was there, we could only catch them on the main lake, where they were blitzing on shad!

I don't do a lot of striper fishing but I'll catch them if they are biting. I'm a opportunistic striper fisherman. Plus they don't grow as big on Anna as they do on Smith Mt. They grow big down there!!!!

![]() Pictures of recent catches at Lake Anna are posted on the Sturgeon Creek marina web page. Here's the fish I caught last weekend. Too bad I couldn't get out this week. Fish were probably feeding well. Cold front hits tonight...probably be windy and cold tomorrow. Last edited by 3dkicker; 12-01-06 at 11:38 PM. |

Awww shucks.....
For years this lake as been a real challenge to fish. It's been said many times that if you can fish Anna you can fish any lake in the country. It had a 15" slot limit and a 5 fish limit was difficult to catch. Recently, the last two years, the numbers of keeper fish have improved greatly. And we have also caught a lot of 14"+ fish. The slot was eliminated July 1st and most tournaments have gone to a self imposed 12" limit. Now there are a lot of quality keeper fish in the lake. This lake is still challenging but not nearly as difficult as it once was. It's a 4,900 acre nuclear power plant lake. There is a lot of docks, rocks, and old tree stumps but limited laydowns and no grass. Other species you can catch include striper, catfish, crappie, bluegill, white and yellow perch, pickerel, and walleye (yep, got the toothy critters too). It's only 20 miles off Interstate 95 south of Fredericksburg, VA. Enough of the sales pitch. |
