Default It wasn't a yawner today!

Flyrod and I hit our local lake about 10 this morning, and we thought Flyrod jinxed us: He caught one on his first cast-a dink smallie. We didn't get another hit until about 2. We had been working a deep water bluff and no takers so decided to try the dam. I got a nice chunk right off the bat on a dropshot but had a reel malfunction-not backlash-so I had to put the dropshot down. Dang reel wouldn't engage when I turned the handle. Flyrod thought it was a lube problem. I had my doubts-had to whack the reel on the bottom to get it to engage. Got it home, took it apart-there was plenty of lube, so that wasn't the problem. Put it back together and it worked fine-go figure. But, I digress.

I picked up my wacky rig rod and put on a white/blue glimmer Yum Dinger and picked up three on it. Then we started working the south bank away from the dam. Flyrod started catching them on a T-rigged worm and I tried different colored stick baits rigged weedless. I finally settled on a baby bass/pearl laminate Yum Dinger. By 4 we had 10 in the boat and were slowly working back towards the ramp fishing shoreline timber. There is a front approaching, and they turned on after 4. By 5:30 we had boated 19 and stayed until almost dark to try to pick up that 20th fish. We didn't get #20 but both of us had missed several. Every fish came on soft plastics-T-rigs, weightless stick baits and drop shots. It was a beautiful day-sunshine and very gentle wind-all in all a fabulous day on the water with a good fishing buddy.
