Goose Eggin Sucks

Well threw up a goose egg today on 3 different lakes....dam...These were all ponds that were covered in ice yesterday that thawed out yesterday evening...air temp was 33 and water was probably 35...I threw dropshots, shakey, jerkbait, and a jig...nothing....I think I am done unless it warms up pretty good....I can catch em in the cold but man it is brutal now...What is your guys bait for ice out?

I, like most, like throwing a jig during the cold months. However, water rarely (never) gets into the 30's here, so I've never fished on water that had ice on it, ever! At least you got out, even if you froze. Better then talking to these maniacs all day.

well my go to baits in the winter are a spinnerbait with a big single colorado blade and i like to add a pork frog in the cold months as well to help bulk up the apperance and slow the fall so you can slow roll it even slower than normal. i also like a jig and pig, a big one with real pork and a rattle seem to help too. a jerkbait used with long pauses. these fit the bill pretty well for the fact that bass are lethargic in cold water. i still believe that regardless of temps if you put a bait in front of a fish you can get a reflex strike, so when all my slow baits have failed or during the warmer part of the day i will throw a rattle trap or a crankbait with a tight action keeping in mind to work it slower than normal, but the more cast you make the more likely you are of getting your bait in front of a fish. you have to realize that in cold water a bass won't chase a bait as far or come from as far away to check out your bait, so work each piece of structure from as many angles as possible and make several casts to each piece of structure, it may take 30 casts to get your bait to come by her at just the right angle or just close enough to push her over the edge. hope this helps, i know it's not really a silver bullet for getting blanked in the winter but more often than not it has worked for me.

birds lay eggs to reproduce. a couple weeks/months after the egg is layed, it hatches and a baby bird comes out. same with a goose.


oh yeah, some people use the term "goose egg" to mean zero, as it looks like a goose egg, 0 .
