1.) Would you rather fish a spinnerbait on a 6'6" MH rod, or a 7' H Extra Fast rod?
2.) The best rod I have for crankbaits is a 6'6" MH. Will I be okay with that for now? 3.) I don't really know how to ask this question, so it may be a little wordy. I understand you can use the same rod, reel, and lure for the same bait, but depending on the cover and situation you're in, you should have different lines. How do you pick which one. For example, let's say you are fishing open water with a weightless senko using #14 line. Then ten minutes later you decide to pitch a senko into heavier cover. Do you have two of the same exact rods but just with different lines? How do you decide? I hope you understood this question. ![]() Thanks all, Julien |

1. med fast action
2. yep 3. Go to heavier line in bushes...if you are getting into some really narly stuff go with the heaviest rod possible...for docks and stuff I use mh or a m 7 foot rod... |

1. MH
2. Yep 3. I throw weightless senko-type baits on 12 lb fluoro. Doesn't matter where I throw them. Just check your line often in heavy cover for nicks and abrasions and retie as neccessary.

Thanks everyone. I'll try to explain #3 again. If I'm fishing a jig with mono in open water, but then after that spot, I want to flip a jig in weeds, should I switch the line? How do you decide what line you're going to put on your reel?

I decide on what im gonna be fishing in. If its open water, then i normally go with 15 pound mono. If its around structure, then I use 20-25 pound mono. I wouldnt switch, you should be fine in weeds.

Thanks. So I should do my homework on the lake I'll be fishing, find out what cover I'll be fishing, and switch my line accordingly?
Thanks Tex. |

Joolz-figure out what you will be using the rod for the most and spool it accordingly. You can fish lighter line in heavier cover, just check it for damage frequently.

Cool. Thanks Reb. That definately answered my question. So PRETTY MUCH any line is okay for any application. It's just that fishing is more difficult if you're not using the PROPER line for that situation. But it's still possible to fish in that situation with the wrong line.

I like a 6'6''mh rod for spinnerbaits,I like a 6'6'' medium rod for cranks, but if you lighten up a little on the drag, you should be fine with a mh,and yes,I like lighter line in the thick stuff.

1) 6'6" MH is fine.
2) I like a 7' M Cranking stick 3) I'll have one reel spooled with 15 lb. Fluorocarbon (open water to medium cover) and one another reel spooled with 17-20 lb Fluorocarbon or Big Game (maybe braid) for heavier cover. For tournaments I try to figure out how I'll be fishing the lake/river and what cover is prodominent and spool my reels accordingly. ( I usually have 7-9 rods on the deck) Eric |

6'6" MH 17lb mono works for me in open or brush. Try the 7" Senko once in a while not everyone uses them

Thanks all. Here in Wisconsin we don't have a lot of timber or heavy good looking cover like I see in Florida and Texas. It would be nice if we did. Now I'm starting to wonder why I bought a 7' Heavy Rod.

honestly, you can fish for anything with anything at anytime. your odds go up accordingly, but for my entire life growing up I fished with a 5'6" ultra light with a 1500 shimano with 6lb test on it. caught more 25+ inch northern, 20+ inch walleyes, numerous big bass etc.
but with that said, it matters. I now have over 30 rod reel combos, each have their own function, and they dont deviate from it. .... i prefer a fast tip for spinnerbait fishing personally. i think i can feel the subtle changes with it better |

Lots of opinions of course. I use 12 lb flourcoarbon in the open, 20 pound flouro in the junk. Sometimes I use my frog rod in the thick stuff also. It has 30 lb braid on it.
