I'm Super New To Fishing...Needs Advice

Hi,

I'm Brian and I'm a complete newbie at this.

I heard great fishing stories from my angler friends and found them to be really interesting and amazing!

So I thought I might check out this sport to see if it's worth taking up.

But first anyone who got any advice on where I should get started on?

The rods or the lures? Or?

I'll be reading and posting lots of questions soon. Really appreciate all the future wonderful responses!

You are going to want to get some spinnerbaits in various colors...come crankbaits....shallow for starters and some senko plastic worms....

These are senko baits....throw them out on a texas riged hook....and twitch them in slowly and let them sit and then move them a little...they will hit them on the fall....

Here are some spinnerbaits in good colors for starters to get

You are going to want to cast these babies around any trees and wind them slowly around them ....the bass will jump out and grab them...giving them a twitch here and there on the way in.....
Here are some good crankbaits for starters for catching some shallow bass

Another bait that you will want to get for early morning action in the summertime is a topwater

All these can work at one time or another......

With these baits you will be able to cover all the depths....and get a ton of bites....

I would say to fish slow this time of the year...don't move the worms too fast....retrieve the spinnerbaits and crankbaits slow along the bottom...

I have heard that there are some really good quality cheap rods and reel combos at Bass Pro Shop. Since your a beginner you should get a spinning style reel. If you go to Bass pro Shop.com then you can go and see a lot of different types of rods, reels, and combos. There is a baitcasting reel and that is mainly for somone that has fished a little while because there is a lot of different things you have to take care of it, but spinning reel is simple once you use it a little.

Lures you should get a topwater, artificial worms, jig, crankbait that run different depths, and a spinnerbait, and maybe a buzzbait which is made for being a towater but has the build of a spinner bait.

You need hooks, weights, and needle nose pliers if you get a hook deep in the fish. you expecialy need them for when you accidently, or on purpose, catch a pike, muskie, or anything with teeth.

If you buy all the fishing gear you need at once it will ring up the price pretty fast and you will be suprised how much stuff you need and is out there that looks good. It does cost alot but you might have plenty of money too i dont know if your on a tight budget or not.

You can find a lot of tips online about bass fishing and its helpfull to look at different websites to get a idea of how bass live, what attracts them, different techniques, and how to become a better fisherman. But you need to practice. you learn the most out on the water and the more you fish the better you will become.

get a rod n reel first u gotta walk before you can run and learn how to tie proper knots and learn were n when to catch fish ...then go buy lures and start fishing !

Welcome to the forum! Keep it simple by going to walmart and getting a pack of EWG 3/0 worm hooks,a pack or two of zoom trick worms,and,using a 6'm spinning rod or even a zebco 33 combo,with like 8-12lb mono,just tie on the hook,and texas rig the trick worm. Cast it out and slowly reel it back in keeping it in sight and twitching it every so often. This is how I learned to bass fish and it works,trust me. Spinnerbaits also work,keep it simple with 1 white 1/4 ounce willow leaf blade walmart spinnerbait and 1 1/4 ounce yellow colorado blade spinnerbait. Fish these just fast enough that you can see them,the bass will usaully hit hard and all you have to do is sweep the rod to the side to set the hook. To set the hook with the trick worm,just drop the rod tip,take up the slack,and set with a firm, upward set. I hope this helps!

Welcome. Best advise I can give you is find a local tackle shop and ask questions. The guy behind the counter and the customers as well. "I'm new to this, why are you getting that lure?" Get the tackle guy to set you up with an inexpensive rod and real and spool it with 8-10lb mono. Go to this web site to learn how to tie knots:

Get a 1/4 ounce egg sinker, find a field and place some kind of marker 50 yrds away. Practice casting to the marker. Move closer, further, get the feel of your equipment. Now go fishing. (they call it fishing not catching so don't get discouraged).

I just bought my stradic 4000 at BPS, and noticed that they had some great deals on shimano products.

A shimano stradic 2000 and one of their reels for about 100 dollars, pick it up, you won't be dissapointed.

I'm pretty new to freshwater fishing too, so... yah. :P
