New to the forum just thought I would say hello. Also I'm new to the Jacksonville FL area if anyone would like to share a few tips about the St.John's or Palatka I would be thankful.

Welcome. Let me guess, you're from Georgia?
Well the St. Johns has some interesting variations from the normal bass, bluegill, crappie fishing. Check with the local bait shops, you may be able to find everything from shrimp to shad running in there!

The St John's is a monster rotfl. You will probably hate it for awhile, till you learn a few tricks. Best advice I can give ya is find the current and fish the wood in the current. Anywhere it narrows is usually a decent place. The canals are OK sometimes. Each part of the St John's is different and it is very long. Remember that most bigger lakes in the NE to central part of Florida are also connected to it. It is tidal if you didn't know, and the tide varies again from area to area. Good fishing, and keep your head up for those racing boats, and G. Swindle coming at ya.

Welcome to the forums Rector. Pretty good bunch of guys in here. I'm stuck up north here looking at a good 10 inches of solid ice yet. The only experience I've had bass fishin in Florida was at Lake Tarpin over in the Palm Harbor/Clearwater area. Had some great times on that lake!!!!

Welcome to the site! Like liz said, the Saint Johns is a beast. Where you're at, you're probably launching from Shands, so I'm thinking Doctors Lake, Julington Creek and Black Creek should keep you busy for a while....Most of the real succesful guys around here have one or two creeks that they fish, and thats just about all they fish. Go hang out a little bit at Whiteys Fish Camp, some people there will be able to help you out. Good Luck Man!
