I had a bad, and then a very great experience today that I thought I'd share. I had the afternoon off, so I decided to go practice crankbaitng in a small little pond close by home. I picked up my boat headed to the pond, and launched the boat. When trying to pull out I realized I was stuck

One thing I can definately say about people from Jacksonville and the surrounding area is they are more than willing to help out. They dont raise hell if youre fishing in their pond. They dont mind to loan you some bait if you need it and theyll show you everything they know-as did my brother-in-law and his father from Hilliard. People down this way just arent that helpfull/friendly whatever you want to say.

More than once, while preparing to launch or recover, my friend Rebbasser and I have assisted someone who was having a tough time at the ramp either driving their vehicle up the ramp or helping get their boat on the trailer. Sometimes it's nothing more than offering to back them in the last few feet then parking their vehicle and bringing them their keys.
Any little thing you can do for another person is deeply rewarding to one's self, and in a good way. Of course, sometimes it's to clear the ramp because some bonehead with a "S--t boat" (See: Other than bassboat) is fumbling around and wasting OUR time, but the gesture in nonetheless meaningful. It usually goes something like this..."Reb, that guy is having trouble. I'll put you on the dock and you can go help him while I make a few casts! ![]() Works like a charm! FR |

We've helped our fair share of boaters on the ramp too, one day
it was obvious a young boater was having problems starting the engine, we pulled up to the ramp only to find others in line waiting to launch, a quick view of the motor revealed a plug wire was loose, the owner was grateful that we could help, and offered a photo op for our troubles **link** (our view of the owner attempting to fix the motor) |

That's dangerous, working on engines that way. I wouldn't go poking around a motor like that, with all that er...hair hangin down.
