Default KY Lake 3-4-2007

A buddy and I went out to the lake today for about 8 hours. Water temperature still hovering around 45 degrees with a very slight stain to it. We caught 21 bass. 19 largemouth, 1 spotted bass, and 1 smallmouth. The biggest one was a 4 lb. largemouth and second biggest was a 3.5 lb smallmouth. Out of the 21, only 5 were over 15". We caught a bunch of drum and a 5 lb. chain pickerel (dang! only 6oz. away from the state record!) Productive baits were 1/4 oz. shakey head worms, 1/4oz. tubes, a "kentucky rig," and jerkbaits fished 2' to 15' deep on main lake points.

Between Blood River and Kenlake State Park on the west bank, main lake points. The fish were near the drop offs, whether it was on top of the flat, on the edge of the flat, or at the bottom of the drop off. Having a bait that was on or within a couple feet of the bottom was key.

Well, we didn't get a chance to get into Blood River, but from what I saw out on the main lake is that the water had a slight stain to it. We could see a chartreuse bait about 2-3 feet down in most places. The water was clearer in the doldrums and a little stained wherever the wind was hitting hard. But from previous springtime experience on the lake, I'd say that Blood River was probably stained water conditions, for the most part anyway and probably a little less clear the shallower you get back in there.
