Default Stick with what you know

Everyone that I have talked to in the past has always said that. Stick with what you know. Whether it be a type of lure, type of rod, whatever, even down to your vehicle you drive. Did I listen. NO. There was a Shimano Coriolis on sale at Wally World. Ok, I'll give it a try. Took it out on the water, it broke first hand. I will never you a shimano again. I like Diawa, and Qauntumn, and thats it. It was like, I thought Shimano was supposed to be the "Stuff". I was really dissapointed. Just thought I'd share.

As far as bass fishing goes, I think "stick with what you know" is one of the dumbest phrases around. To be a good bass fisherman you must always be learning new techniques, improving old ones, and making new patterns. At one point I did not know how to use a spinnerbait, now they are probably my favorite lures to use in most any situation. I'm sure that at one point Denny Brauer knew nothing about the jig, and one day decided to try it. So many years later he won the classic using it. As far as bass fishing, never feel content with what you know.

Yeah, I'm starting my second year of bass fishing too. I'm making so much progress I'm already thinking about getting rid of my Scooby-Doo rod. :

That is the hardest part in the progression of bass fishing to me. Learning to move on to new methods and baits. Seemed like the times i went last year i was always returning to what caught the most bass. Well not anymore. Over this long and cold winter I have plotted out many new things I am going to try. Every nice day I have been practicing with my new bait casting reel. But I won't abandon spinng, alowing for the need to present itself before I resort back to just that. Been thinking of new places and lures for different situations. Learning from this board and all the great advice it garners. Yea I could go back and toss that same old senko on my easy to cast spinning set-up but not anymore.

I think people often get comfortable with what they know and let it go at that. I think that is the quickest route to "average" angler. The ones that consistantly work to improve there technique, knowledge and ability are the ones that live everyone else's fish stories

All of you have valued opinions and I appreciate them. All I was trying to say, is I made a big mistake in changing the type of equipment I used. I don't know why I changed in the first place. As far as learning new techniques, I am all for it. But you have to perfect what you know before you move on, or you're wasting your time. I mean if your fishing a tourney, are you just all of a sudden going to throw this lure you have never fished before? I'm not. I'm gonna stick with what I know will catch the fish, and in my off time, try the new tech. I don't have all that much experience bass fishing as well, but I know what I've caught fish with, and when it comes to the money, I'm betting on what I know, as to what I don't.

Thats all I was trying to say.

I can see where your coming from, but sometimes you just have to find out for yourself.
I had several of my friends tell me I just had to get a Yamaha four stroke on a new boat I bought a few years back,it turned out to be a nightmare. It was in the shop more than I used it,I was never so glad to loose money on something in my life.
But now I know never again, although I know there good motors for some just not for me.
