12 Today:
2 largemouth on spin 1 largemouth on fly 1 peacock on spin 8 peacock on fly Today, I tried some new spots and went to a spot I haven't been to in a while. After only catching one largemouth at the first spot, I went to the spot I know. That was a good move. Sure enough, first cast and I am hooked up. I see followers and get my own double header. They are both small, but self-double headers aren't to common for me. ![]() Two more cast with the fly rod produce two more fish. I ended up catching 7 peacocks on fly and 1 on spin in about 8 minutes. None were big. They were mostly in the 1 pound range. My mistake was staying a the spot for another half hour. I only caught one more little largemouth on spin. I decided to try another new spot. Sure enough, I walk up and spook a few little peacocks and saw what looked to be a decent sized one. I worked my way over to where I saw the decent one, and it spooked. It returned, and I wasn't sure if it was spawning. Spawners don't usually leave the bed. I figured the fish was three and a half to four pounds, and I thought four was pushing it. I casted and eventually hooked up. I realized the weight behind what I had. It turned out to be my second biggest peacock ever! It missed my biggest by 1 ounce. It is my biggest from shore. This is the first fish I caught at the spot. I caught it on the 4 weight fly rod! 4 pounds 15 ounces ![]() 21 inches ![]() ![]() I also saw these ducks at some of the spots. What are they doing in South Florida in March? Anyone know what species these are? ![]() Malard ![]() |
