We hit, as Flyrod says, beautiful Canyon Lake this morning armed to the gills with tackle ready to do battle. We had a 10-20 mph SE wind but managed to find some fishable water. The lake, after two good, heavy rains, is bank full(WooHoo!) and surprisingly clear. We managed 24 fish, all on soft plastics. All of my fish came on a baby bass/pearl laminate Yum Dinger, a Christmas tree Tiki Stick, and I foul hooked one on a junebug 3X Zero rigged weightless, C-rigged and wacky. Flyrod got his on Texas rigs, T-rigged soft jerkbaits, and drop shots.
Speaking of dropshots, as the title states, Flyrod done good. He was fishing a drop shot along a steep bank in about 20-25 feet of water and got a hit. He set the hook, the rod bent double and he said something about good fish. Then, he tells me to "get my *** down here!" (when we are battling wind we alternate who runs the TM so neither of us get too beat up, and yes, Flyrod is the only person I fish with that I trust completely to run my boat and he was on the TM ![]() ![]() I jumped down into the well and lipped her when Flyrod got her close. My scale was not working for some reason-probably needs a new battery-but we estimated it between 6-6.5 lbs. With the exception of a-well, he was driving a speed boat pulling a tuber-you can figure it out-it was a great day on the water with a good friend!

Another bassing partner offered the theory that she was simply too old to spawn. Wellllll, I'd be more inclined to think she might have some other issue that prevented her from becoming gravid. Mebbe some ailment...is a lesbian...had a headache that day...whatever.
I guess it's possible she's already been there/done that for the year but her overall appearance argues against it. Y'see, there are NO signs of fin wear and tear, no stretch marks ( ![]() She fought energetically enough, especially on a St.Croix AC69MLXF rod, but, although fairly rapidly released, did remain afloat until Reb wiggled her a bit. We both kept an eye out to see if she resurfaced...happily she didn't. Well, that fish is a happy memory...now for the next one. FR |
