Should I keep this in my previous fishing report post?
I decided to buy some YUM Wooly Bugs in Green Pumpkin color today. I am soooo happy that I did. I went to that same pond and on my third cast I had a big one on. I lost him. Not a good enough hookset. ![]() Then I went to the nearby lake and boy was it windy, wet, and cold, but it was well worth it. I am really starting to gain confidence in many baits. I've never caught bass on a texas rig before last week. 1st Smallie?!?!?!? ![]() I let my dad borrow a hook, weight, and wooly hog. It worked! ![]() This is my new favorite bait. ![]() ![]() All of these fish were small except for the first one I lost. (3rd Cast) Smallie Story- 1st of all - is that really a smallie? Too good to be true. It fought like a 16" largemouth. I was letting my dad borrow my rig. I said "Let me show you how I fish this for one cast." So I said "Let it sink. When it hits the bottom, twitch it maybe three times, let it sit for a second, lift it- BAM!" During the demonstration I got my first smallie. My dad said, yeah that is sure the way to fish it. All of these posts. All of these new experiences. Thank you guys sooo much for helping me out. It's really paying off. P.S. - I got my first fish on a superfluke! |

Awesome report, I'm glad things are working for you! I know the same feeling, just this week I caught my first bass on a texas rigged worm, and today I got one on a craw... its so awesome to set the hook!

Nice fish and report !! It looks like a smallie to me... Although I've never caught any, I was told that they put up more of a fight than largemouths... Not sure how true that is.... Anyhow, congrats !

Joolz - you are on a roll, in my experience the smallie's i catch have every bit of fight and a little bit more sometimes than large - Congrats and keep us posted. I can't wait to get out and try some of the things I've learned here too! I got a bag of wooly bugs too!

Thanks a lot guys. So it's alright if I make more posts with pictures? We have spring break this week...
You know what that means. ![]() I seriously thought that smallmouth bass was a 16" largemouth bass. Am I learning, or is this the time of the year when they feed the most? I've read that during pre-spawn they are the most aggresive. I feel like I am fishing in a bathtub with bass in it? Should I feel like this? |

Well done, Joolz! Your smallie story is typical-they fight big for their size.

Where are smallies? I know Lake Michigan has them, but I have no boat to go there. I can fish from shore only. I feel like I'm stuck in a cold place where there are no big bass of any species.

Not enough to make a new post...
Now that it's spring break, my dad took me fishing today. It was only about 25 degrees there. At the end, I managed to pull off one fish. He/she was my second superfluked bass. I'm really liking crankbaits and soft plastics. It was fun. It felt good to get a decent bass in such cold weather. He was only about 14". ![]() |
