Wink Potomac River Report from Last Week!

Well I spent the entire week before Easter on the Potomac River, and man let me tell you I don't know when the river has been this healthy!!!! 3 and 4 pounders were the norm!!! I must have boated well over 150 fish and only about 3 or 4 that would not measure 15 inches, and everyone was a green football!!! 15 inch fished would weight 3lbs!! My 2 best were just over 6lbs, but lost count of the number of 4's and 5's that I caught. From the very back of Mattowoman creek to Auqa Po beach area the pattern was the same, sand or gravel banks close to the channel in less then a foot of water at high tide. Cover water with either a Red Trap, or a White/Chart Chatterbait!! Bigger fish were coming on the chatterbait. I also pitched a black/blue jig to any and all wood I went by and picked up several good fish that way too. One would have thought that as the weather turn from awesome to absolutly miserable last week that the fish would move back out!! Well one would think......they DID NOT!!! From Thursday in 45 mph gust thru Saturday the fish were still up shallow on the same pattern, you just had to slow way down!! Several fish were on the bed, by the wore out tails and belly fins!! Here are a few pics.

So Kevin, when ever you ready to quite fishin up north and come down here and put some weight in the boat let me know!! We had a 20 plus sack every day!!!

Nice catches there Gunny! I appreciate the info. We had our tourney that was supposed to be on the 7th postponed to this Saturday. Hope this front moves right on along and it warms up a few degrees. Supposed to be rainy but 63 degrees.

Very nice fish. What was the air temp and water temp to have the fish on the beds already. Sounds and looks like you had a blast.

Great report Gunny. I got out yesterday on the Potomac and caught a bunch of nice fish too. I had pictures I was going to post but due to technical difficulties they were all lost . I started the day with a 3-4 lb fish and finished with one over 3. Most of what I caught were in the 14-16" range but I had fun catching them. I caught all of my fish on crankbaits. The fish were so aggressive that one bass actually jumped out of the water and ate my crankbait as I was lifting it into the boat. I couldn't believe what had just happened. The water temp was 52.5 degrees and the bass launched itself out of the water to get the bait. It's going to be an amazing year on the river and I believe it may be one the best years fishing in VA in a long time. From what I've heard about quality fish and what it is taking to win tournaments.
