a question on polarized sunglasses

i have never used or owned a pair of polarized sunglasses. do they really benifit you as muach as poeple say. and if so what should i look for when buying a good pair

They make a huge difference when you are looking into the water. You will be able to see deeper than you could before. Great if you fish in water with submerged stumps that you could either hit or fish.

I have paid a lot of money for glasses, but my current pair were $12 at Academy and they seem to be doing fine so far. And if I lose them, or the two year old gets a hold of them, they are cheap to replace.

Oh-High-Oh,

You ONLY need polarized glasses IF you:
A: Want to navigate a body of water (or drive a vehicle on the road,) safely.
B: Want to identify a promising patch of submerged cover or structure BEFORE you run over it and spook the porridge out of the bass, or perform a propellor-ectomy 'cause the glare prevented your seeing that rock or stump in time.
C: Preserve your vision as you age.
D: See and enjoy God's creation in it's true colors.
E: Fish more effectively.

Other than for those reasons...nahhhh, don't waste your money.

Great for all types of fishing, look at Costa del mar they have different polorized lens for different fishing conditions, I own three pair and I will never own any other brand.

They're extremely worthwhile. Whatever you get, make sure they offer 100% UV protection.

obf, I NEVER go without polarized sunglasses. I use 2 pair: gray lenses for sunny days, amber for cloudy.

Mine are Action Optics, now Smith, and they discontinued the models I prefer . that seems to happen a lot with lures, too. Anyway, in addition to the benefits already stated, they will help protect your eyes from UV rays which over time can harm your eyes.

They help a ton, especially if you sight fish or just enjoy seeing fish hitting your bait. I personally use Oakley's in the Amber lense. They seem to work great no matter what the clouds are doing. They are expensive but worth the money IMO.

I own 3 pairs- all strike king. 2 pairs are cheapies- 12-15 dollars. My good pair cost a whopping 40 dollars. I don't believe in spending an arm and leg for the most broken piece of equipment I use.

Simple solution for lost/broken sunglasses:

Use something so they hang around your neck. I use Chums, and if they aren't perched on my nose they are hanging around my neck. Really protects them from loss or breakage.

I just got a pair of perscription polarized glasses. If you remember I posted that I got a pair of Solar Bat with the insert from wally world. My doctor said it would cost around 3 to 4 hundred because I wear trifocals. Because I needed new regulars I got the sun glasses for $150 extra. I hope these work ok. At least wearing them I can now tie a knot.

I use them all the time, and it really helps to find underwater brush/cover, and that helps because it is almost always less pressured because people without polarized glasses just can't see it!

Another question? I wear eye glasses, so whatever I purchase need to be clip ons. Does anyone have any clip on recommendations?

Definately get a pair, if you have doubts, start with a pair of Renegades from Wal-Mart, in the $10-$15 range, take 'em out for a test run, then go back and get a backup pair

I would like to have a nicer brand, but I'm not vain, and polarized is polarized, only the quality of the materials of the lens and frames are different, plus you pay for the name. Dearly in some cases.

The only clip-ons that are polarized that I know of are made by Strike King. Flyrod uses them-maybe he'll chime in or PM him.

motor oil I have the Strike King clip ons. I used them but didn't really like them. If you read my post above, perscription is the way to go. If that is not possible try one of those eye places that advertise everywhere. I picked up a real nice pair of clipons from them. They were $39.00. I keep them in the truck for backup. Not cheap but not to expensive. I just recently got better eye insurance so I bought the perscription pair.

Get the best pair that you can afford. Eye protection, UV ray protection which most companies state that they have uv protection however you need full uv protection. You may want to try polycarbonic lenses or glass lenses. Experiment with each.
Best of all, you get the "racoon" eyes that show your a real fisherman.

Purchased both at the local BPS. Both are 100% UV protection, glasses are gray and clip ons are amber. Both were under $20 each. Besides being able to see the fish better when your on the water, they may help protect your eyes from wayward lures.

There is a Brand of Sunglasses that fit over your prescription. The name of them is Cocoon's They work well enough just to to many glasses for me. I would suggest you invest in a pair of prescription ones, they make a huge difference in comfort and vision into the depths of Davey Jone's locker. And welcome.

I have a pair of regular glasses that have clip on sunglass lenses, amber polarized. they work really well. Also have a pair of regular polarized sunglasses for when I wear contacts, have been able to really notice a difference from when I would wear regular sunglasses. Better to see the water with...

I too have perscription glasses and tried the clip-ons first. They just seemed to make my glasses too heavy and uncomfortable, so I bit the bullet and had some perscription glasses made.
