Hey guys (mainly Zooker
![]() My dad was thinking about purchasing a rarely used, kept in dry storage, 17'8 foot Hells Bay flats boat (03 or 04). I couldn't really find any information about these boats, so decided to ask here. The reason we are getting a flats boat is instead of a bass boat is because we live in Florida, and are right by the Keys. So, any info on this boat would be great.

Hell's Bays from what I hear are great. They are known on the Flats not in the bass. Ask around here for some more info,

Hell's Bay made a great boat before they went out of business. (I hear that somebody bought the company and is going to start making them again though.) I have been on the Marquesas with a guide. He says that it is an amazing boat that poles great. He fishes Biscayne Bay a lot. I have only heard good things about the Hell's Bay Boats. If you have any questions, I might be able to help you out, so feel free to PM me.

Flats boats perform just fine in a Bass setting. The only negative is a little more bounce on rough days compared to a bass boat. They usually draft shallower, are lighter weight and able to go in skinnier water. Plus they are a lot nicer to clean at the end of the day. Ive been tossing around buying one for some time. Plus smaller engines=less gas, still getting good speed.
