I hit the lake I wrote about earlier this past week. Water was 42-43 degrees, the bite was very slow in the morning picking up in the afternoon. 2 bass were caught. I went through the gambit of lures and techniques. The crappie were slow to bite as well. They picked up in the afternoon, 25 were boated. 1 chain pickeral on a jig was taken too.
Sunday trip was washout with coldfront coming in the night before. Windy cooler and a cold rain the night before killed the lake. In comparison, a local farm pond that has producing some nice sized fish and crappie in huge numbers. The water temp in that pond has been between 48-50 degrees. With the bass and crappie in solid prespawn activity loaded with eggs. I will continue to fish this lake in the near future. Weather patterns here in VA have finally started to change to a springlike pattern. With that hopefully warmer water and consistant air temps as well. Mike |
