Default Yeah. Yeah. I know...Canyon Lake! Right?

Reb and I fished there today and caught twenty-eight bass. Yay!

No, you wouldn't. Only five legals in the bunch and none over 15". Canyon is a numbers (See: Dink) lake. That funny-looking semi-hawg I caught (and Reb posted here,) a few weeks ago is the exception rather than the rule.
To be fair, there have been days in recent years when I've managed a 50-50 keeper-to-dink ratio, and even had days when I've lucked into more than one 3, 4, even 5 lb. bass. But I'd dare say that the best five fish from any given day on Canyon, especially since some remarkable ones in the 70's, would be unlikely to top 13 lbs.
It's often a seasonal thing, of course, with gravid females helping the weights. Oddly, although my first fish y'day was VERY pregnant, we have yet to see any bass showing fin damage from nesting.
Some of us are gravely concerned re this year's spawn due to the effects of the heavy rains and fluctuations in lake level. There have been years when similar events appeared to virtually eliminate recruitment.
Soon, the Rebster and I will begin fishing little Boerne (Ber-nee) City Lake...*no gas engines= no lake lice...for the Summer and we are agreed that the averages there will likely be superior to those at Canyon.
JB, I promise; Any decent catches will be displayed here.

*Ya can have 'em, just not crank 'em save in an emergency, as we did once last year.

JB, I've tried to get Flyrod to let me take a picture of one of his Canyon Lake "toads"-you know, the ones that are almost or the same length as the bait he is using, usually a 4" ringworm-but he won't play along.

We did get to fish one creek for the first time this year-so far this year the wind kept us from fishing it-and we caught several on Bandit 100s.
