First trip this year for LGmouth Bubba style and the weather could not have been nicer. Fished around Greenway Flats for the striped things at dawn but no takers. Once sun came up we shifted to smaller rattle traps and did real well with the outside grass edge. Yo yo style and grass ripping produced about 8 LGMouth and this big coon tail perch.
A nice Lgmouth Sunday a pre dawn setup on kittys produced 12 fish for a total of 206 lbs. Bent rod radar goes off And just plain good fun Next weekend is repeat in reverse. Capt Mike

Capt - getting out this weekend also. Whatcha got goin' on? I was thinking of playing up in your neighborhood but don't want to jump in on you. You finding fish/bass over the new grass? Friend did well down south fishing this way throwing traps during the week at low tide.

Saturday I will be out of Fort Washington running north for kitty time but Sunday I will be out Smallwood for LGMouth. Research shows some really good fish straight across from the ramp in the cove north of trash point. The emerging grass and the fact that so many fish are using the spot for a feed area before returning to there capture area is surprising. I had six fish over four lbs in about an hour at dawn the other day..TOPWATER...
too. After that with incoming tide I will run south and fish Chixamuxen till I get on fish. Keep runing south till tide tops out and return north on outgoing. Unless I get on fish and stay with them. That is the plan. I will be at the ramp at 6am both days in the only Mako Bass Boat. Capt Mike

Gotcha! Thanks for the update. Got a little of the same from another source today...a couple specific spots down south are producing 20lb bags on shallow cranks over grass. Firetiger traps were effective. Topwater bite too but on toads.
I'll post if I do anything worth talking about. |

Baby 1 and 1/4 oz spinnerbait in grass or marsh grass did the trick for us today. 1 keeper on a Sammy off a laydown. Caught a few on LC cranks but no size. Pop-R/RICO produced the biggest bag today at 14+ lbs. Fish were caught over grass on late incoming tide. Spinnerbait/crankbait caught the second. I believe the fish were on a rocky point and were caught early. We caught numbers in both areas we fished. Chart/green baits produced the best for us.

Capt, how were the winds on the flats today?????
![]() We were headed south this morning and decided that it might be a little rough heading back so we stopped at Chop. creek and caught a bunch of fish on plastics. The last hour of incoming and beginning of outgoing put the best fish in the boat. Fish were relating to the channel drop and eddies. Probably some of the toughest fish on the river live in this channel. Ride was a little wet going home as we took a couple over the nose ![]() Last edited by 3dkicker; 05-06-07 at 11:47 PM. |

Well if you could fish main river you are insane. Four foot seas following the river and tide change at 11:am made for big arse rollers. Heard two pan pan's on the radio and luckly no where close. As a rule I always leave 16 on and respond to all distress calls.
At the dock I saw Bill Cramer. Bill is a 6 foot 4 inch retired fishing guide who has won many am-pro tourny's and he explained the big tourny out of Smallwood was canceled due to wind. He fished back of Piscataway and did real well with 8 or so bass. So fish where caught but not by me. Capt Mike
