Swimbait rod

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of purchasing a swimbait rod (casting)... Was wondering what you guys recommend as far as length, power, and action are concerned. I am a BIG fan of shimano but I'm open to any suggestions. Just wanted to see what you guys are currenlty using. Thanks in advance!

I recently started using a 7 ft rod MH for my swimbait fishin and i like it alot!

Depends on how big the swimbaits are. If you are talking about swimbaits like Storm makes a 6-6 or 7' MH or H rod will work. If you are going with the bigger baits-2 oz. and up-you probably ought to get a rod made for throwing swimbaits. I'm looking myself for one and am looking hard at an Okuma big bait rod or a Daiwa Heartland rod made for salmon fishing.

I was thinking the Okuma myself. Instead I got a Kistler Mag. It will handle swimbaits up to an ounce and a half. But the add I read for it said it will handle slightly bigger swimbaits. It's a 7ft heavy. I am going to try it out this weekend. I paired it with a Citica 200D. I will see how that works . I tried out my Revos this past weekend. I love them. I might switch the rod to a Revo.

Thanks for the response guys... I was looking at the shimano crucial 7'11 H rod... But it seems a little too big, so I'm still looking....

Like Reb pointed out...depends on what baits I plan on throwing.. Well, I plan on using Huddleston Lures with it...(their trout bait...about 5oz)... Not that I plan on using only that lure with it but just to give you guys an idea. Anyhow, Keep the suggestions coming.

for big ones go with 8 ft. extra heavy. Sounds outrageous but fishes them properly

Right now I'm using an AllStar spinnerbait rod. Not your normal swimbait rod, but it is rated for up to 2oz., whidh is heavier than my flipping stick is rated-go figure.

So I guess the Crucial 7'11 is just about right then, eh? What about Power and Action? Thanks so much guys... I have an idea... But still want and waiting for more suggestions.. Again, thanks..

What type of line is good for swimbaits? Braid, mono, etc.? I will be using Mattlures bluegill and baby bass. Both in clear and stained water.

Bob, right now I have braid, but may switch to heavy mono. Haven't decided yet.

You should get a back bouncing rod.

Thanks for the responses everyone !!! I have an idea of what rod I will be getting. Now comes the reel, which I already have an idea of... Using Braided line of course.

Look fo the Shimano Terramar rods, they are one of the inshore series rods, I got one and it is a great rod, I got a med/hev. and I use big worms, like the zoom ole monsters and does fine.

as far as the pole i use a g loomis big bait gl2 pole its 8' 12- 25 lbs test. as far as your line i use to use braided, but a man who i recently met told me the best line to use is 20 - 25 lb mono, somtimes even 15lb. your reel should be somthhing along the line of 5:3 ratio, work the baits slow and throw them into the deep and work them back up towards the shallow. personally i have yet to catch a bass on the big swimbaits then again i rarely use them.
