Its actually superior to my current one, and I'm trying to figure a couple new things out.
Instead of just a red and black wire (neg and positive), it has a red wire, a black one and a white one. Its a 12/24 volt motor, which I've never dealt with before. What wire is what? Thanks in advance for any help.

The last one of those I had was tricky but not that hard
red - pos white- neg black- neg with that in mind you will need to run 3 wires to where you attach your trolling motor . and you will have to hook up you batteries in series imagino your batteries sitting side by side you will need a jumper wire from neg on one battery to pos on the other now connect the red to the battery positve post connect white to the neg post same battery ( this gives you 12 v ) connect the black wire to the neg post on the second battery ( this will give you 24 volts ) hope this helps A Hassell |

What exactly is the advantage of going 24v as opposed to 12?

when you select 24V you will get more power I had a 12 / 24/36 talk about a pain to wire when the wind was howling i could bump it up to 24 v to hold on a point and sometimes had to use 36 when condtions are really rough
I have a new Motor guide 70lbs thurst 24 v I love it fish all day and still have power you have more power supply with 2 batteries rather than 1 word of caution dont use your starting battery as your second battery you could drain the battery and not be able to start your big motor use two independant batteries |

Adding another big deep cycle would be a lot of weight for my boat. Would it make sense to get a smaller, cheaper batter for the 24v operation and use it sparingly?
