I am looking for a cheap baitcaster to go on one of my spare rods. I already have a couple expensive ones that I use most of the time, but I would kind of like just alittle something to stick on my extra rod. With that in mind I don't really want to spend more than 50 bucks... Any of you have a great endorsment for a cheap baitcaster???

You might laugh, but if you are looking for just a spare, then the Zebco Rhino is a good one. I bought one of these a couple of years ago on clearance and have really grown to LOVE it. There for awhile I was liking it more than my Quantum.

Dude, if it's really a spare, then get one of the $10 carded reels at Wal-Mart, not much more improvement by spending the extra $30, if any. A better plan would be to get a new reel, something better than you have now, and make one of your current reels a spare.
If you're rationalizing a need for another reel, don't do it, save your money, buy a nicer reel. Yeah, lots of folks have lots of equipment, and you might want some more, to 'compete' in some way (go on admit it, I bought a few extra because my Tx partner did), but don't buy crap, you'll buy it twice. The rest of us didn't get out stuff overnight, it took some time ![]() |

You might be able to find a brand new Abu Garcia Torno reel (normally $89.95 to 124.95) for around $50 on ebay. I have and I used them today. Caught some nice fish too.

man i would say that there is the livin truth.. most of us old guys- ![]() cheap reels break more -cheaper parts-and cost more to repair. a quality reel -really don't matter by which one- will break less often costing you less in the long run.. i send all of my reels in for general cleaning and maintance every year..i rotate thru my reels during the winter months. i have 6 spare casting reels..4 of my reels are down now and in need of repair. one i got to send to pnj -he knows why-the rest go to my pro wrench.. laugh but one of them is 30+ years old... zooker

Thanks for the advice everyone. While I agree on the, you get what you pay for advice, I decided I wanted to give a Diawa a try so I went with this Diawa Procaster. Retails for 49.99 but I guess BassPro was having a sale so I got it for 39.99. We'll see how she works. Heres a link if you want to see a pic.

Man, if you've not purchased it yet, a fellow over a Tackle Tour is selling TDA's used, got a 150H for $60 shipped, it's a $100 reel, I got the P, and have bought from him before, not that I needed another cranking reel, but one can never have too many
