Hey guys, just got back from my tourney, and let me tell you, it was a good day of fishing. I brought in a sack of three fish at a total weight of 6-3. To some of you that is not a lot, but I was fishing the back of the boat, and the first place winner won with only 11-12. So I think I faired well. The wind kicked our butts all day, but I brought in some good fish.
I was fishing Lake Sinclair, in Milledgeville Ga. Couldn't tell you the water temp, there was no electronics on board, it was REALLY windy. and they were all caught on a "Brush Hawg." P.S. My brother is doing much better. Travis |

I was happy with the 1.5er that I got to start off with. Because I knew that I wouldn't 0. And the other two just came bam...bam, and I wasn't complaining. I learned alot and that was the big kicker.

Travis, I am glad you did well.I loved being the nonboater .Even if I didn't know how to use a certain lure the guy in front of the boat was catching fish on, alot of the times I didn't fish a whole lot, I just watched how he fished the lure to catch fish, I keyed in on where and what he was doing to catch the fish and then copied what he did and caught a few fish.Later on I took my own boat out to a simular looking areas and learned to fish the lure better so next time I could be more confident to use the lure. I hope this helps. P N J

What I learned most from this tourney was how to establish a pattern. We caught three fish in 15, only one keeper, but they all keyed off of the see wall right on the edge of sunlight. Thats what we keyed on fishing on all day, and thats how I got my fish. I used a totatlly different lure then he did, but it worked.
The benefit from fishing from the back, is that if your boater covers a speciffic area, and misses fish that are there. I can come up behind him, and fish something totally different and land those fish. Thanx for your support with my brother. |

Big-Bad-Trav,
If thats one of your first tournaments then big time congrats. I've found that a non-boater can actually have it's advantages over the guy in the front. Sometimes you can get up to 3 casts in to his one. You don't have to worry about where the boat is, and your concentration is much more refined than his . The only thing that you have to do is catch fish, how much easier can you get ! |

Trav...
You have learned that you can do a very good job at catching fish without bringing in anything over 2 1/2. Depending on the bite and conditions... you take what you can work with, and make lemons into lemonade (or lemon meringue ;D) |

Ok Travis, I have some tips for back of the boat fishing for you. These I have picked up from fishing with my wife. First, cast out a Texas-rigged Tiki Stik or a wacky rigged trick worm. Let it sink to the bottom. Yawn. Stretch. Have a sip of beer (not now that she is pregnant, now it's water). Complain about how hot (or cold) it is. Reach for some Funyuns. Scream when you feel the tug on the end of the line. Reel in the fish and then brag how it is bigger than anything the boat driver (in this case, me) has caught all day. Lather, rinse, repeat.
I usually charge for information like this, but for the people on this board, it is free. |
