well lets just say i could not lift my hands above my shoulders most of sunday with out winchin in pain..
fly swatter if you paid out the kind of $$$ it takes to charter a trip like that off shore you too would be selfish..we boated 15 mahi, 7 wahoo,2 yellow fin, 2 blue fin. broke a big blue fin off-over 800 pounds- i had a sail fish break me off during one of there famus leaps. 3 reels got spooled. seen a massive marlin beat the snot out of a boat bumper teaser..3 of the 15 mahi were citation size.. tuna fishing is almost like WORK.. the speed of tuna is unreal!! they would get close to the boat after 2 hours hooked up and just haul azz peeling hundreds of yards of mono at a time.. there is a reason they have fighting chairs in off shore boats. the smallest blue fin we boated weighed 380ish..the big one we boated took 4 hours to boat -had to release it -weighed just under 600 pounds.-according to there lenth x width table.. zooker

I love Deep Sea fishing we use to partner in a 50 Foot Hateras and I deckhanded for a few summers. HArd Hard work but a great experience. Was even on a few fishing shows, one was Rusty Faulk Outdoors.

I helped clean 5 gag grouper behind the station tonight. Gutted weights- 32, 33.5, 33.8, 38.7, 41.3. My engineer was out spear fishing this weekend. Found a shelf in 170-180 feet loaded with grouper. Him and buddy limited out. Also got 3-4 sheephead, mangrove snapper, red snapper. Not sure on the rest. Man, I gotta pick up this spear fishing stuff. One filet fed all 6 of us for dinner w/ extra.

![]() Quote:
As a kid in the Panama Canal Zone, I got to go deepsea angling every five to six weeks (for 3.5 yrs), courtesy of the taxpayers. The Army ran several nice 44(?) footers out of the famous (and now burnt down) Balboa Yacht Club and officers could sign up for free trips. All you had to furnish was chow and beverages for however many days you could spare to be on the water. One Army NCO ran the boat with the able assistance of two Panamanian deckhands. At age 11 I hooked, and we finally gaffed, a (if I recall correctly) 386 lb Tuna. It took forever and by 45 mins into the fight I was begging them to cut the line. My knuckles dragged on the ground for days and every bone and muscle hurt ditto. My dad stood behind me offering encouragement..."Stay with 'im, Son!"..."For the Honor of The Regiment!!!"..."Cut the line? Why you little &^#$!@!". I'll have you counting blankets in the Aleutians!!!"...as he sipped numerous beers. My response...(Whimper, sniffle, openly weep)..."Sir, yes, Sir! Right away, Sir." Up 'til then I had assumed that tuna swam around in cans..."Look! A school of Starkist off to starboard!"...and was amazed to see that they had eyes, fins, tails, etc. After all, yer mom never asked "Fauntleroy, would Snookums like a fish sandwich? We have the loveliest Tuna today." Nope, it was "Heyyawannatunafishsandwich?" I just assumed they were born in cans. The method of spawning never crossed my mind. Our Panamaniac live-in maid, Miss Jean, a dark-skinned descendant of Jamaicans brought over to build The Path Between The Seas (Thanks, Teddy Roosevelt!) prepared the most amazing dishes using that fish and we had plenty to share. Alas, those days are long past, thanks in great part to that idiot peanut farmer who gave in to some tinhorn dictator. Now, the Red Chinese pretty much control the Canal. Damn you and all upon your wormy family tree, Jimmah Cahtah! ![]() Nice job, 'Squatch! FR |
