Just got a new kayak, an Ocean Kayak Malibu Two. I decided to take it fishing down the guadalupe to test it out a bit, and try to find some new spots. I did a little scouting, and found myself in the most beautiful place I have ever seen. It was a small river, about 25 feet wide, to my right there was a sheer rock wall, probably 100 feet or so straight up, with water trickling down it. to my left there was another rock wall, but lined with cedar trees making on overhang over the river. I was throwing a crawdad with a 2 ounce weight t-rigged( to get it down to the bottom, with all the current), with a couple of dinks here and there. Then I got to thinking of how this could be a prime smallmouth spot, and at that second I have a huge tug. I set the hook and a few seconds later a 3 pound smallie comes leaping out of the water! A while later he is boatside, and I catch my 2nd smallie ever and also my biggest. Its about a 3 mile paddle from my house to this spot, but I'll sure be back! No pics, I didnt want my camera to take a drink. I will get some pics of the place once I get a waterproof camera holder at BPS.

Sounds amazing. I just cant wait till I get enough money for a boat... I know there are some beautiful backwaters around here full of bass. Its always rewarding finding a spot with a great view, and even better catching nice fish. WTG!

Thanks
02- I actually bought it from a neighbor for 60 bucks in good condition and with a seat and paddle! It has the usual scratches underneath, but well usable. They go new for 600 dollars stripped. Last few days I have been tricking it out-adding rod holders tackle storage and other cool stuff. Iwill post pics when im all done with it, probably later tonight. |

Sounds awesome.
I've actually just remembered a neighbor just down the street who has a beautiful gheenoe on a trailor which has NEVER moved. I swear I've never seen it in a different spot, just out next to the garage. Looks like its in great shape, I think I'm going to ask if they are intrested in selling it... once I get about 300$ They might want some money for it since its on a trailor, who knows. Its worth a shot though. Question: I dont know these people at all, never even seen them before... When I decide to ask them, should I just go up there and just tell them I've noticed the beautiful gheenoe in the driveway that hasnt seemed to move for quite sometime and that I would like to know if they are interested in selling it? Politely ofcourse.. It would be a lot easier if I've actually made an acqauntance with the people... but I've enver seen them around in order to introduce myself.

Sounds good. Of course knowing them would help, but being polite is about the best you can do and who knows, maybe they will be happy to sell... Good luck.

I hope so, its just sitting there, not doing anything ever. Its a beautiful gheenoe... only down side is its pretty tough to stand in a gheenoe comfortably. I stand in them when duck hunting, but I have a blind around me to help keep the boat still... who knows I'm sure I can figure out some kinda modification to keep her more stable.

Ahh I remember seeing the picture of his... I know what you're talking about but do not know the name. the only downside to what you are talking about is that it sounds like it would be awkward to tow? I found a pretty good site: customgheenoes.com that I will visit once I get ahold of one... see what some of them have done. The neighbors gheenoe may be a different make than the one we have, in which theres may be a lot more stable and may not need any stability mods.

Ohhh whoa deffinitely didnt remember what the outriggers looked like. Thats deffinitely a good idea, they appear to be adjustable as well...
He needs to come back on the board so I can ask him how he built them. No idea where he's at.
