Well, Flyrod and I hit the lake this morning about 6:15 and thought we were having depthfinder problems-it was showing WAY deeper than it was supposed to. Turns out we both misjudged where we were-it WAS dark-and ended up over the main river channel, so the depthfinder was working fine-we weren't
![]() ![]() ![]() So, we took a picture and it went back in the lake. Cleaned up the slime, retied and went back to fishing. We left the area about 90 minutes later to fish some deeper flooded timber. Rigged up a smoke/red flake tube and started throwing at the timber. Felt a thump, set the hook, and this was another good fish. I thought I had a real big smallie. Nope, not a big smallie, but a big fish-another catfish, this one about 12 lbs. You gotta be kidding me-2 10 lb + catfish? On soft plastics? On the same day? Dang fish slimed me, the boat, the tackle on the deck, Flyrod-beats getting skunked, but given the choice I could have done without that !

I'd love to catch more catfish. I think they're great fighters and are much stronger than same-size largemouth. (I'm talking channel cats, never caught any other kind except for bullheads).

I've done two around 20lbs on 4" ribworms on channel drops on the Potomac in 10 minutes. They're fun to battle. Sit back and enjoy the ride. The 20 lb carp pull harder though. Hooked one of them on a Baby 1 (not the same day).

Catfish boogers are fun.. Yea I like them and love to flick them off the boat..
The line gets slimed and you run the line between your index and thumb to collect the gooey boogers and just flick them as far as you can.. Talk about good fun.. Capt Mike

We catch a lot of cats while crappie fishing in the spring on crappie jigs. They are a bunch of fun for the first 10 minutes or so then I get tired of them. I had my wife and son out last Spring and I hooked into a big cat and handed the rod off to my wife and she fought it for about 15 minutes and then handed it off to my son for another 15 minute fight until we got a 30 lb blue cat to the boat. They had a ball and I was glad I didn't have to fight the danged thing. We released it after photos.
