Mattern Guide Service Hello Everybody,
Luke 12: Verses 43 & 44; Blessed is that servant, whom his Lord when He cometh shall find so doing. Of a truth, I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.
Well I am still liking my wounds after the Bass Champs Championship. I had almost 18 lbs. going into the second day and had saved my best 3 holes for last and had 14 lbs by 9:00 am on the 2nd day. A total of 31 lbs. with my weigh in time at 4:30 pm. I left my first hole when there was a loud clanking comming from my brother\\\'s boat motor and then the lower unit went out. I was 7-8 miles from the weigh in and I knew it was over. How frustrating, thank the Lord the wind was blowing towards the weigh in station so I used the troll motor and made it safely in at 3:00 pm. I was catching my fish on Nichols spinnerbaits and creature baits. Also Phantom Stink Hogs flipped in the hardwood in 8-12 feet. I was using 50 lb. power pro braid, Moss green and Kistler 7\\\'6 and 7\\\'11 rods to pull those Big Ole Bass out of those mesquites
I was glad to see a cuople of guys came in 2nd using those great Nichols spinnerbaits made by Dave Nichols. Nichols baits has helped me make alot of paychecks when nothing seemed to work for me. They used a 1 ounce size for those bigger bites and made a cool 15,000.00 for second with a string for 2 days of 50 lbs. plus.
Lake Fairfield: I was on Lake Fairfield yesterday and the water temps were 70 by the Dam in A.M. and 85 in discharge. Water is in good shape and the little island in the mouth of the discharge was under water to give you an idea of water depths.
Bass were good up to 4 lbs. and most Bass were caught on carolina rigged 4 inch finese worms in watermelon red. The wacky rig worked along deeper grass using Nichols Salty mother sinker in Green Pumpkin Pepper caught bass also. Carolina rig worked best in 6-15 feet around discharge and grass edges near main lake points.
Heading to Sam Rayburn tommorrow for a trip. I guide on Sam Rayburn, Lake Palestine, and Lake Fairfield. Lake Fairfield is the first for Bass to spawn in Janusry and February. But in December bass are moving in and staging for spawn. Give me a call and we will book you in at 903-478-2633 or 903-724-1203. Thanks and God bless and keep you and remeber Jesus loves you and the devil is still a liar. Don Mattern Sr. with Mattern Guide Service
