Default Captain Mike...

How big did you say the catfish hooks you used were? Look at these bad boy Halibut hooks. 11/0. $3.95/ea in Alaska at the local takle shop. For a Halibut jig:

> 2 pounder:$5.99
> 4 pounder:$9.99

I used a jig(2 Pounds)along with a Med/Hvy G-Loomis rod and a 9" Slatwater Berkley Powerbait. Dang, them Halibut sure do dig Powerbait! They used a zip-tie to keep the Halibut from ripping the Powerbait off! Oh, yeah, did I mention you used 150LB Tuf-Line braid? Man, Alaska was awesome. If you get a chance, start packin'. That was definitley a once-in-a-lifetime-trip. Life happens once, don't waste time!

Check out these hooks. By the way, I used quarters and my hand to represent the size. Here they are:

Wow, now THAT'S a hook! How about just sinking a powerbait with a granade shoved into the belly and see how that goes? Whats it like casting a jig that weighs 2 pounds?

That hook will keep the dinks off.. I use 8/0 and 9/0 Gami offset circle hooks on live Black Salty's

With that hook a 4 oz weight would be an option.

With this hook Mike you have the choices of using a 2, 4, or 5 lb weight. It takes a while to reel them bad boys up when you hook one. It's like reelin' up a sheet of plywood. So much resistance it almost unbelieveable. Oh and did I mention you use a 5.5' broomstick for a rod?
