Default Hook keepers

I like to I use either install these on my rods.It is easier to use that the wire hook keepers that are on most rods. I use either Lindy, or Norman brand. Also Bass pro shop makes them, but it has been my experience , that they break extremely easy compared to the Lindy, or Norman brands. P N J

After looking at that, it reminded me of the Jig-X Jig Trailer Keeper. Anybody ever use one of these on their jigs?

I put the Norman's on my BPS Extreme rods because they didn't come with hook keepers. So far so good.

Hey strap,Yep that is one of the things I didn't like about the BPS cranking sticks I have. The Norman brand last for years before the loop gets torn, The BPS brand didn't last but a few trips and the loop broke.I think the Normans are cheaper priced as well. P N J

I was thinking about getting some of those for our old spinning rods and my BPS PRo qualifier. You'd think a $120 rod would have a hook keeper... Thanks for the warning, now I know not to get the BPS brand.

I have been using the Normans but for me they don't last over about 6 months. Could be the hotter temperatures in our area.

I have tried the Jig-X trailer keepers and like them. Can't get them locally, so I found some small rubber bands used to put up girls hair in pony tails and such. I make a loop in the rubber band and snag it on the jig then put on the trailer and loop the end of the band over the hook. Works like the Jig-X, except I got 250 for like $.96. Will try and take some pictures and post them so you can see what I am talking about.

Go with a St.Croix; every rod, $80 or $240, hook keeper, Fuji Guides, nicest rod seats ever made...

Lunk, the metal keepers on most rods are very small and a pain in the butt to quickly unhook a lure,They are an inconvenience after using this type of hook holder. Most of my rods come with hook holders, they just aren't as easy to use as these are. Before these, I just hooked the lures in the top of the reels instead of using the small built in hook holders. Of course , I am not aways correct either. P N J

PNJ, tell me about it. I recently bought a new musky rod and reel with my christmas money. The only one the Cabela's has near me that is in my price range is the Fish Eagle II. The hook keeper on this Musky rod is soo small. And to think, I'll be putting 3/0 and up Trebles and 7/0 and up regular hooks in it...

Here is what I did to my rods to make my own hook holders . It's easy, cheep and holds up forever. I simply used a split ring and a zip tie. Simply run the zip tie through the split ring and cinch it to your rods reel seat or the base of the rod itself. I've been using this method for 20 years and have yet to replace one or see any damage to the rod.

BigBassin, I don't know how to insert an image into a quick reply message so I will open a new thread with a picture of the hook holder I use. Sorry p&j, I don't mean to hijack your thread.

Keith, no apology needed. If you have a picture on your computer , you can use the apaerclip button to download a picture without posting it to a website, providing it is not too large. P N J

I have the paperclip on the tool bar on top when I post a new thread, however when I am posting a quick reply, there is no paperclip on my toolbar. There is an image that looks like a yellow box that says insert image when I put my arrow pointer on it, but it does not seem to allow me to add a pic from my documents as the paper clip does.

I use these as well., They work very well, the other ones are cheaper and are better suited for the bigger jig, spinnerbait hooks, than this Fuji keeper are. P N J
