I have a small club tournament every thursday that starts up in about a month. I have a guy that usually fishes with me, but he's not going to be able to get off work on Thursdays this year. Do you guys think I need to get another partner or should I fish by myself.
pros: win all the money if I win. entry fee is per person not per boat. cons: pay for all the gas. no net man. one less line in the water.

another good thing is you can fish how you want to and where you want to. no worrying about boat position for the other guy either. i am fishing a tourney next week by myself. i am on fish and i think i stand a shot at finishing really well, i know that taking a partner would increase my odds but i can only take a guest twice a year (club rules) and i didn't make the meeting to get drawn a partner, i don't want to use up one of my tourneys with a guest this early in the year so i will go at it alone. there are a lot of benefits to it.

yeah, but i can do what i want and go where i want when he fishes with me. the only thing i have to deal with is worrying about the boat position.

I fished in an informal league last fall and it was $40/boat for a weeknight 3 hours tx. I did it by myself once, but that gets kind of expensive. I would rather have a partner, who knows maybe everything I do will not work that evening and a new idea will help. I don't talk a lot on the boat, but if everything is failing it sure helps to have a fresh thing to try.

there deffinatley is a lot of good and bad points for either way you look at it. the two biggest downfalls are the financial side and having to make up for the other persons weight in the livewell. at least that's how i look at it.

Great question and for me the answer is simple. If I can fish with a partner I like and get along with, it's a no-brainer---go with a partner. There are too many advantages not to such as:
1.Split expenses 2.Two heads are better than one in coming up with ideas. 3.Two lines in the water. 4.You can show the fish two different baits----or, not. 5.Net man. 6.Help load and unload boat. 7.Someone to share your success with and keep you company. On the other hand, there's no way I'd fish with someone I didn't like or who annoyed me no matter how good they were eg. Mike Iconelli. I fish alone alot and I like my own company. |

I'd prefer having a partner. Just my opinion though.
