Default Flippin' The Dials...

OK Guys, here's my problem. On my newer reels, a Pflueger Supreme WLPL, (Left-hand), and a Daiwa Fuego, (Left-hand), they both have a dial that you set for casting. I believe this is called a magnetic brake? They both are on the opposite side the crank-handle. So, my question is, how do you set these "brakes", in coordination with the tension knob, drag, etc. Ultimately, how do I get the reel set perfectly for a set condition and lure?

Thanks,

-Lunk-

I think the problem is that they're left handed kiddin'...for me it's been my experience that there is no so called perfect setting, on two rods I have the brakes set at about 4 and usually hold the rod at a steep angle and adjust my tension knob with the lure I am going to use and can tell from the speed of the free fall where I need to be (this takes lots of practice/experience)

However, with all that said..I usually have different setups that vary in weight for the different types presentations I want to throw so my settings vary from reel to reel...you will find the same is true for yours...adjustments will also vary in flippin/pitchin..you will have tune way down and really use your thumb to control the spool when switching to this type of cast....it took me an entire summer (over 100 days on the lake to master the baitcaster..and I still have things to learn...maybe I'll give a left-handed a try...hahaha..just kiddin')

Magnetic control will allow you to control the distance of your cast. The lower the setting the longer the cast. Most people set it on 0 or 1 when pitching so they can control the distance with their thumb. Depending on the weight of the bait I'll set it around 4, like Jason, and then adjust it depending on the casting distance and wind conditions. Lower for more distance, higher for less.

Magnetic controls, I believe, are better than centrifugal for beginners or for those who change baits or weights often. Changing centrifugal brakes are a pain in the...
