Default I Did It!

I finally did it! I successfully tied the Blood Knot! I just used some cheap, $1.50, 15 lb. test, but I got it to hold a 7 lb. dumbell for five seconds before I released it down. I've heard it was hard, but it actually was knot, (Had to do it! )! Here's the site that helped me out:

http://www.fish4fun.com/bloodknot.htm

I need to know how to tie a braided main line to a fluorocarbon leader though. What knot would work best for this. Any other knots I should need to know?

Congratulations. I've never tied a blood knot that way but I don't see why it wouldn't work. I don't know if you're aware of this or not but the bigger the line is, the fewer turns you make and of course, the smaller the line the more turns. I use 4 or 5 turns per side for 15 or 20 lb test and 7 or so for 6 or 8 lb test. That's turns to each side of the hole you run the tag end through. So, I guess the way you're doing it you'd double that.

Thanks for the link. I just tied a Uni knot. Anyone use the uni knot instead of a blood knot? Looks like they would serve the same purpose. Which is the best?

Uni to Uni is a whole lot easier IMO:

You don't have to keep that little loop in the center of the knot open. It works for both braid to mono and momo to mono.

Jigger, 99% of the time tying the bait to the line I use a Palomar knot. On ver rare occasions when the mood strikes me I use a Trilene knot.

I use the uni knot for everything except dropshotting. It's never let me down.

My husband and I just tried out those two knots the other day. I was wondering which ones you guys use. We tied both sucessfully many times(actually we were tying a double uni knot) and compared the strength. The blood knot did better by a lot. The line usually broke before the knot, and most of the time the the uni knot broke before the line did. This wasn't scientific or anything, but we tried to control the variables as much as possible. I will be certainly be using the blood knot this year. That's just my 2 cents.

I always use the Albright Special for connecting lines. Strong and VERY easy!

i've always used the blood knot but when you get low on mono on the spool
that little knot and its ears catch the line as you cast..
time to add more line huh

Lunk, I used the albright to tie 20# mono to 30# braid. I tried the blood knot, but it wouldn't hold because the mono was so much bigger than the braid. Albright seems to be the way to go.
