Default No telescopes please

I want a flippin'/pitichin' stick that I will use primarily for pitching BUT I DO NOT WANT A STICK THAT TELESCOPES. Instead, I want a one piece job that has backbone with some sensitivity in the tip (to tell the difference between a strike and lily pads). Any recommendations?

I really like my one piece 7' MH Quantum PT rod...it's a great rod and I think you can get 'em under $100

Wishin'- In all seriousness, I've used a 6'6" MH Ugly Stick for years for pitching. It's not 7', but it's done pretty well. It has a fast action for the flex. Just a thought- There's a lot of good rods out there. Good luck!

jasonfish, do you think that 7' is long enough or do you think I should consider 7'6"

-PnJ, interesting that you mention the Ugly Stick. This might sound a little off topic but I recently purchased an Ugly Stick Lite as my new trout rod. I paired "the stick" with a new Shimano reel and the salesguy gave me sh*t because I was "sticking a good reel on a cheap rod". I told the guy that I like Ugly Sticks (my other trout rod is an Ugly Stick Ultra Light). Anyway the sales guy just couldn't get over the fact that I wouldn't spend much on a trout rod. To be honost, I don't do too much trout fishing so I couldn't see the sense in dropping big cash on a rod especially since my original Ugly Stick (the ultra lite), I have had since 1988 and I never had any complaints with that rod.

Wishin'- A few years ago I was sorely lacking in funds but I needed a stout rod. A catfishing friend suggested the Ugly Stick. I took his advice and haven't regretted it a single day. I'm not comparing it to a St Croix or Loomis, but it's done right well. In fact, I was fishing Anna in VA. last year when a 5.3# LM was rude enough to bite my lure. I tried to get him off so I could continue fishing but he was too stubborn. Anyway, the jist of it is, I felt that fish barely tap the jig in about 20' of water off a dock. That "cheap" rod did great hauling him to the boat. He wasn't the biggest bass ever, but he was stout enough that a cheap rod would have been fairly stressed, in my opinion.

Most companies do make a 7'MH or 7'6" H rod. Some that are specifically made for flippin' will have the tele handle, but other won't just keep looking

Try looking at these: http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/AdvSe...ting&x=30&y=14

I bought a St. Croix Legend 7' H rod for flipping this year. I topped it with a Revo. I like it so far! I have an old Fenwick 7'6" Telescoping flipping stick that I used for years (I've had it for 22 years now) until I lopped off about 6" of it in the tailgate of my truck! Now it's a saltwater/catfish rod!

No, I don't love them, they love me for spending all the money on them!

I think St. Croix should seriously give me a free rod voucher for all that cash wrapped-up in those rods. About $630 to be exact; four rods...

W2B - Give us a little more information on what and where and how much. There are plenty of rods out there to choose from.

What price range? Shimano, St. Croix, or Loomis (sorry All-Star, Kistler, etc too)

How heavy of bait are you using? 1/4, 1/2, 1 or 1 1/2

Gotta go with 3dkicker on this one, not enough info to make a good suggestion for you. Give us a few more details. There are a lot of great rods in just about every price range you could want. Tell us more of what you want to accomplish.

Well I am back to a old 6'10" Heavy All star titanium for a pitching rod.I swapped my Castaways for the Yamamoto rods. The Yamamoto rods are a one peice blank and are labeled as 6'6" rods but they are too long for pitching. The rods are actually 7'8" long once built with the split grip handle.

In my opinion you are not going to gain anything by having a 1 peice over a telescopic rod blank but in saying that I prefer the 1 peice rods over the telescopic rods. C-Bird Snowed in

i got the 6-10 all star rod for flipping in 94 and still use it everyday.
I had a telescoping abu garcia rod before that and hated it...like a broom handle.

At first I balked at a tele rod for flippin. But (maybe it was Zook) enough replies said they were alright for flippin. I got the Quantum pro model 7ft6in and it works fine. But as posted above there are many non tele rods to choose from.

My flippin stick if not finished yet, but we are buillding it. It's 7'6" with the Telescoping handle. I can't wait until it's finished.

What reels would you guys suggest for flipping jigs?

You definitely need a faster gear ratio. Not too fast, but somewhere in the range of 6.1:1 - 6.4:1. Nearly all reels in this GR will have somewhere from 20-30"+ of line pick-up per crank. Exactly what you need to get 'em out of that cover.

I personally use my Daiwa Fuego, Left-Hand, and love it! You can nearly set the reel with no braking settings for the ultimate pitch or flip.

S'more details . . .

The flippin stick really will be used for primarily pitching. I want something with major backbone but a sensitve tip. I intend to pair the rod with a Chronarch MG which will be spooled with Power Pro 65 lb line (I was going to use the 50 lb but I recall reading some posts which mentioned problems with the 50 lb PP braid). I will be throwing a lot of 1/4 - 3/8 oz stuff (tubes, unweighted texas rigged senkos, unweighted Salty Shads, and 3/8 jigs) and once and a while I will go heavier. I don't mind spending a little bit of money but don't want to drop "Loomis" cash because every year I usually break a rod (never know which one will be the unlikely victim).
