It was a very common bait here during the 50 and 60. Didnt look like much but did catch al species of fish. I have caught bass, crappie, catfish, stripes and drum. It was most comminly used for trolling. It did not cast well due to its shape and wieght. Fish2win

A buddy of mine uses the lazy ike quite a bit.... a left over from fishing with his grandpa. He does catch catch quite a few fish with it despite it's odd appearance. His usual technique, is cast, let it set for a second or two, a couple tugs and a slow retrieve. It is a little tough to cast, but he seems to do ok. I would see where it would be more of a trolling bait though...

We used to taske a small crappie type hair jig and tie it on ahead of the IKE. It made it a little easier to cast. But trolling was perfect. When you rigged that was it looked like a big minnow chaseing a small minnow. Teh arched shape of the ike will make it twist your line like crazy when casting so use a crane swivel. Fish2win

Yup, should of mentioned the swivel... the Ike can twist you up like the devil... Thats a great description of it's action, minnow chasing minnow, I never looked at it that way!

I caught some bass on them when I was a kid in the 50s. I haven't used one since then.
