Default old baitcasting reel

i have a old reel that i cant find much about.it has bronson mercuru no.2550.it has pics on the sides of fishermen in a boat.its made of cork for string backer.there is some kind of stone or not sure thats red on both sides.if anyone knows were i can find anything about it or know anything let me know.o ya it works real good.found it in a tackle box i got at a yard sale.thanks

Wow what a find! That reel is worth between 5 and 10 thousand dollars! Good job!
















































Just kidding of course. I have no idea personally, but posting a picture may help. It really could be worth almost nothing, or quite a bit. Thats collectables for you.

these have matchin bake-o-light handles. they look like a abu round reel.. i prefure pflugher reels that reel is from the mid 50's..

mercury has put there name on nearly every thing made for fishing..

i dont know if it makes any diference or not.but the real i have you cant tell the first u from the last.doesnt look worn out or anything just lokes the same as the first.tried to take pics but cam i have not that good

Back in the day it was string or thread, especially for the reel mentioned. There was no such thing as "line" or mono.

i agree with kicker. back then it was braided dacron line. notice there is no spool release button. cause they were not invented till the late 60's early 70's belive abu garcia was the first to put them on reels..
