Does anyone know who in southern Missouri is manufacturing a fairly high end reel that is about half the price of the brand name manufacturers. A friend of mine said he saw a fishing show and the manufacturer sponsors them but he couldn't remember the name of the company. Thanks, B.T.

If you consider Ardent half the price of other 'high end' reels, I don't want to know what your 'high end' reels are! Ardent's start at like $200...

I know, but when it comes to fishing, I have found that what you pay is what you get...

Have you ever heard of MARK UP. Just because a reel is MARKED UP say 100% from it's production cost does'nt mean quality. I like the diawa Steez. Yes it lighter. But when it comes to quality & not weight The pfluger Supeme is every bit tthe same reel with out the price tag. Diawa just marked there Sh*% up thatz it. It would really kill you. If you knew the wholesle price was. Traditionally itz about 45 to 55 percent mark up from it cost. There is production cost. generally 40%. There is wholsele cost about 20 to 30 percent mark up from production cost. Then there is retail cost which is 90 to 100 percent mark from production cost. Thatz about 45 To 50 perecnt of wholesale.

I can personally say that the Pflueger Supreme is a great reel! I've thorwn PNJ's on that for almost a year now and that reel is the smoothest reel I've ever used. Even better than my Daiwa Fuego which pretty much burned me out at $229.99...

I did see Ardent reels in Cabela's catalog. Check on their website, they may have them

Thanks LilmooseC, Was a great help. Not sure who was asking, I went to the website (Ardents), and looks like they are only available through web ordering through the different retail outlets they mention, Cabela's, BPS, Tacklehut( I think was the name) and one other. Anyway it does appear to be a web order only. The C400 starts at $170, and the XS1000 is like $249.00. BPS only has the 1000 available and cabela's looks like they sell all 3. Thanks for the info again. I think when I start replacing my Shimano's I'm going to give these a try. Still feel like for the $89.00 on my old Citica's there isn't a better reel for the money. Speacially after super tuning them.
