heavy or medium heavy
which rod do you guys use when flipping and pitching or do you, according to the area or bait you are using, might use both. I guess what I am asking is do you really need a heavy action rod? THANKS BCKLASH

Personally, I employ a St. Croix Avid, 7'6'', Med-Hvy, Mod-Fast, (AVC76MHMF). Croix's have the tendency to be rated higher than normal, so a M will feel like a MH, a MH will feel like a H. This rod is perfect for flingin' those lighter baits out there, yet strong enough to hoss most fish out of any cover. Unless your fishing mats or extra-heavy brush where a one or two ounce weight is needed to penetrate, a medium heavy will do the job just fine!

depends on what your doing with it.. flipping heavy cover with jigs yes a long x heavy rod. accuate pitching use a mh heavy rod. heavy action work best on spinnerbaits and carolina rigs..
i own both i use the 7'66 x heavy stick to flip and pitch jigs to the gnarlyest brush piles i can find.. i use a 7' mh for texas rigging most of which i pitch to less gnarly areas like docks.. zooker

My flipping rod is actually rated as a MEDIUM power rod, but it's slighty heavier than my regular MH rods. we bought the blank from the rod buillding shop here and they said it was a great blank, only 80 bucks, and it is heavier than it says. I'd say, unless you're flipping into really heavy covor or such, you'd be fine with a MH, but i would'nt think a H rod would hurt.

I only use MH for flipping and pitching. My H rods are for salmon and catfish.
