Did a club gathering on old faithful today. Started off slow with no bites on topwater over grass
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's some pics. The bass in the net did not measure 15" so it was released!!! The first pic was an area that gave up 14 bass. The other pic of trees has a young bald eagle in it which you probably can't see. |

It's got the same stick pile as the snake picture I posted. But other than that I don't think so. It's not in Occoquan or Mattawoman creeks but there are plenty of areas on the river very similar. Did you fish any other creeks?

Nah. I only went to Occoquan with my buddy. I thought it was one of the laydown near the ramp at mattawoman.

Did you fish the series of laydowns right there to the right of the ramp and floating docks? The very first small point has some pilings and a bunch of laydowns on both sides. I've done well on those in the past. The one side also has a tiny feeder creek that my friend fished yesterday. His partner caught a 4-10 out of it.

thats the one area I didnt hit. I did fish the area across the ramp tho, with the chunk rock/concrete, and lost a few fish in the grass there.

Trash Point - very well known area. Grass, chunk rock and deep water holds fish all year long. Gets a lot of attention too.
Couple of good laydowns just to the right of there. Has grass out in front of it. Fish it? Grass holds quality fish this time of year. |

I did fish it indeed. I couldnt pull a keeper from it tho. Tons of boats on Trash Point and those laydowns. Whats a good way to attack the grass on a tidal body of water like the Potomac?

Right now the milfoil is coming in. It's pretty spread out so you can swim baits in and around it. Or you can flip plastics. Pretty much anything goes. When the hydrilla comes in then you have to punch through it. That doesn't happen for a month or two now. I expect it to be early this year. That milfoil came up quick this year.

15" limit changes after June 15th. Then all the 2-2.5 lb 14.5" fish all disappear. It's strange how it works that way
![]() ![]() Didn't fish today due to illness, cold weather, and rain but still managed to hang on to the first place finish. I love those Best Day Counts tournaments. |

whats it go to then? 12" or 14"?
Congrats on first. Mr.Bass/PA Bass had a 2 day t there, Fri/Sat. 1st place had 38 and change for 2 days. Lunker went 7.80 or something. Amazing weights. Awesome place, both in size and variety of things to fish. Wish I could have seen more. I beleive FOM had a T there Sat. as well. I didnt get to see hear the results for them. ABA of Eastern PA/NJ is there today. I wonder how they did? When we weighed in yesterday some guy was there taking numbers and weights of the fish that were brought to the scales... Do you know who was taking the study? These Tx's were all out of Smallwood.

The river was crushed with tournaments this weekend. Too many tournaments cause too many problems. Someone got hit just around the corner from LSP and ended up in the hospital. Driver of the boat wasn't looking where he was going and ran into another boat. Fire and Rescue were at our weigh in cleaning up. Our TD owns a repair shop and works on their motors so he got the scoop.
The bigger tournaments I fish it usually takes in the 18 to 22 lb bags to win. You need over 15 to place in the top 8. Study was probably MD Game and Fish. Steve - That's a Baby Paca Craw. I don't think that's the 3+ I caught. Might be another 14-14.5" that I had to release. Size limit changes to 12" until next March. Also turns out I got some bad info and I was beat by .1 lb. Oh well. Not a bad day at all. Last edited by 3dkicker; 04-28-08 at 05:33 PM. |

Leesylvania State Park most of the time. A lot of our guys have purchased lifetime state passes. If we suspect bad weather then we'll use Occoquan. On occasion we'll go up to Pohick, Gravelly Point, or down to Aquia creek.
