Hi,
I just bought a marker buoy for the first time but I'm not sure how to use it. When I'm fishing a spot and I reach a "hole" that has a lot of good fish, I want to use the buoy to mark it so I won't lose it. Do I just throw the marker in that spot and leave it there or do I throw out and have the line attached to the boat? Thanks. Carl |

When I am fishing deeper off shore structure I keep one or two on the casting deck with me. If i hook a fish I will kick one over board so that the wieght sinks and marks the location of my boat when I hookup . That way I can mark where the boat was positioned when I hooked the fish. I then can relocate the spot and cast in the same area. Never drop the buoy on top of your fish. It can become an additional obsticle to avoid when you are fighting a big fish . connecting to the boat would be like marking an X on the boat so you could remember where they were hitting. Fish2win

Welcome to the forum!
I'll echo what F2W said-throw it off to the side of where you want to fish, not right on top of it.

i always add a heavier weight than the one that comes with the bouy. i want the bouy to sink to the bottom and the unwind to the top. when you are fishing in wind this will keep the bouy from drifting off of your spot before the weight hits the bottom (just make sure you have enough line on the bouy to reach the bottom otherwise you will never see the bouy again!).
