Default South Florida Bass Fishing 5-20-08

Yesterday in the Everglades we boated 76 largemouth bass to 2 1/2 lbs. all on artificial. Water levels are heating up and dropping creating great fishing until the summer rains will drive the bass back into the swamps.

Do you think some selective harvesting would help?

Nice day by the way. Would like to check out the glades one day.

Don't stop reading just come to South Florida in May and June and catch them for yourself? It's almost every year like clock work!

I guess it couldn't hurt but that's never going to happen! Too many small fish from, cichlids, sunfish, small bass and every other type food you could think of. The monster bass can feed on so many different types of food that they don't need artificial lures at all. That's the BIGGEST problem?

Thats the exact problem Im having on my lake.

The shad are so thick in my lake that when a school passes under my boat, the depth finder blinks because it cant see the bottom.

My theory on the perfect big bass bait in South Florida would be a 7" Peacock Bass swimbait. Its high protein, not a big choking hazard (unlike blue gill), and they are dormant at night which makes them an easy target for large bass.

By the way, I dont eat bass, but Mayans on the other hand are insanely good eating.
